Republicans are scared as this is an unprecedented attack on safe states which always vote red. US politics is built around two facts: some areas vote red, and some vote blue. This is what determines a swing vs safe state is the ratio of rural to urban areas. Urban areas are controlled by dems and have a huge population and huge business support making them hard to sway. Rural areas are far weaker and have a lower population which is susceptible to demographic change. If you have a town of 10k people which votes red and import 4k-6k fresh immigrants who almost always vote blue you can very easily start flipping these safe red areas into blue ones which will change the balance of power. These populations usually have low voter turnout so getting these immigrants highly motivated to vote by promising them shit they want and having immigration charities help them register and vote (or just paying them to vote which can happen under the table) you can easily flip areas. Republicans can not do this easily to Dem areas which are highly populated cities and their method of election control (gerrymandering, law changes ect) take far longer then bussing in thousands of people in a month and are made less effective with these demographic changes.
TLDR: rather then fight over a small number of swing states Dems are attacking weak and sparsely populated red areas to flip them blue with demographic change.
