Now that the FTC has said Google can't fund :marseytrain:fox, there's about to be one rendering engine left. It's not going to be that easy to work around.

Mozilla jumps when Google tells them to and they have on every issue. Even on this issue Mozilla says they are looking into backwards compatibility support. They can easily do what they've done for every chrome change and say "well looking at the issue and indurtsy trends we have determined manifest v3 complience in firefox is of the upmost importance blah blah blah"

Why does that matter? Ad blocking isn't an extension in Brave.

Jump in the discussion.

They are dependent on google making their browser easily facilitate ad blocking. They don't know how to actually do browser dev

They're doing their own v2 support and the built-in adblocker is completely unaffected.

Google can make it tough to use extensions to block ads, but it's quite a different feat to make it difficult when you can customize the actual code.

To make it hard in Brave, Google has to not only remove Manifest V2 but also the internal methods V2 used -- and then finally make further alternatives hard to implement. I'm not even sure how that could happen while maintaining support for DOM manipulation APIs exposed to JS code.

Modern ad blockers essentially require the same access as JS (actually a lot less), just enabled for all sites.

One time, there was guy directly behind me an my nephews, and he was talking to his kid the whole time. Turned around and told him to STFU it is rude. The guy started giving me shit, saying how he was going to beat the shit out of me after the movie. As the movie ended, I stood up and turned around to see what he was going to do. He and his kid bolted out right away and all I saw was a glimpse of him as he walked quickly out of there. Anyways, I never see a problem with confronting people. You should say something to those people. And if they don't shut up, just grab the baby out of their hands and throw the kid as hard as you can against the screen and start shouting over and over, "See what you made me do!!??" That'll teach them.

When I watch youtube on my PC, all ads are immediately skippable and even pause themselves. Is this google trying to convince me it's ok to live without adblock, or is it adblock being gigabased?
