Excuse me, you want these changes actually merged instead of us endlessly debating edge cases until we get bored and move onto other projects? Do you even FOSS, bro?

I'm halfways convinced Gaben holds a personal grudge against M$. The amount of resources they've invested in making Linux viable as a gaming platform is insane.

He worked there didn't he?

Ages ago when he first started on his mission to make Linux viable I think he said it was the abortive "Games for Windows Live" that scared him.

He called windows an existential threat to his company. This is when microsoft was implying that all apps going forward would be installed through the microsoft store and would need to be signed by microsoft certs.

Yeah I think I'm forgetting what program it was when they were taking about the process for games.

Imma be real I used Wayland on KDE Fedora and haunt had any issues in months since an Nvidia driver update fixed screen tearing in some games. !linuxchads Wayland just werks for me unlike x11 which gives me some weird bugs

TBH i havent had any major issues with wayland either

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Wayland was constant stability issues for me and the inconsistent key capturing in Groomercord made me switch back.

Jump in the discussion.

Wayland has taken more than a decade to reach its current status as mostly usable today, in large part because the people in charge of the protocols kept endlessly bickering and dragging their heels on actual development.

It's beyond exhausting to read the explanations from Wayland developers as to why it still sucks. Seems like the bottom line is that they wanted it to be so generic that it doesn't include any capabilities at all and everyone developed incompatible versions of everything. Like screenshots, for example.

they wanted it to be so generic that it doesn't include any capabilities at all

The biggest issue with FOSS projects is that deadlines and end users satisfaction aren't relevant so the projects either spiral into mega-scope creep trying to account for every single possibility or devolve into exclusively accommodating the whims of the small group of neurodivergents in charge.

Arcan is the open-source project built atop a game engine and provides a display server paired with a real-time multimedia framework for audio and video.

Wet dream of any non-neurodivergent Unix user. You also have full control of the IO piping of any program and can seamlessly bot to your heart's content :marseytroll:

Isn't that how we got wayland

This isn't the first time I've read similar stuff about this project, weird ineffective badly thought out decisions due to a desire to be super democratic. Good open source projects are usually instead based around one obsessive neurodivergent with a vision who says help out if you want but this is how we're doing it. Kind of like the linux kernel itself.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Arch GNU/Linux. The packages are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of pacman most of the packages will go over a typical user's head. There's also AUR, which is deftly woven into your system - its personal philosophy draws heavily from Richard Stallman literature, for instance. The true Arch GNU/Linux users understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these packages, to realize that they're not just free software- they say something deep about GNU/Linux. As a consequence people who dislike GNU/Linux truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Stallman's existencial catchphrase "Free software, free society," which itself is a cryptic reference to Torvald's epic Linux kernel. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Stallman's genius unfolds itself on their monitors. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Arch GNU/Linux tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
