"Why do boys wear skirts and girl clothes?

(Sorry for my poor English)

Hello,

I am a new student here, and I have small confusion. I see many boys who like to wear like girls (skirts, girl shoes, and many lady clothes). Sometimes I find they wear a blouse cover even.

In my home country (Central Asia), this is not usual, so I am very curious why boys like to be wearing clothes like this? Is this a new trend or fashion style?

Is it only BU style, or is this normalised in all of America? Or maybe all of Western country? I do not understand. Very confusing for me. I do not mean to criticise. I mean no offense to anyone only confused and curious. Just want to understand new culture.

Thank you!"

>I really do appreciate you asking about this instead of judging! Never be afraid to ask about something that you are not familiar with from your culture.

>There are two things you might be seeing:

>1. Transgender women - these people were born boys, but feel most comfortable and like themselves when they are socially and or physically resembling girls. These people prefer to be called she/her and referred to as women, and being called boys can cause emotional pain and a condition called "gender dysphoria." There are also boys who were born as girls and people who don't feel like either a boy or girl. This is a VERY simplified explanation, but this is a complicated social and political topic. In the united states, it is acceptable to be transgender and be treated like the gender you feel inside, but some people are judgmental and cruel to these people. We should all try to be respectful of people whether we understand or not.

>2. Boys dressing how they want - in the United States, we have this idea that clothes do not have a gender. For example, girls can wear pants so pants are not for boys, pants are for anyone. Girls used to need to wear skirts, but now they can wear what they want. So if girls can wear pants or skirts, then why can't boys wear pants or skirts? It depends on what you like.

>It is not obvious to tell whether the people you see are transgender women or boys dressing how they want, so you can ALWAYS ask "what are your pronouns." If they say "she her", she is a girl. If they say "he him", he is a boy. If they say "they them", then they are non-binary (that's a lesson for a whole different day haha)

>If you have any questions on what I shared above or if I said anything confusing, please do not be afraid to ask. Reddit is a place where you can ask these questions without worrying about being judged!

>Coming to the United States from a country in central asia can be confusing, so do not worry if you don't understand everything!

Very clever, making them explain it like that. Really lays bare the imperative for narcissistic support. He wants to know why, and in response he is told the why is to require a change in his perception of gender. Not to persuade him of the arbitrariness of many aspect of gender performance, but to literally create a hegemonic new gender reality that requires his active participation.

>some boys like to wear girl clothes. it's definitely not unique to BU. also, you might just be thinking you're seeing a boy wearing girl clothes, when it's just a girl who doesn't look like you'd expect

reminder that shit like "go outside" and "go touch some grass" have fairly ableist connotations and if your immediate reaction to this is "wow everything is ableist now a days" you're part of the problem.
