Holy shit it is bleak. There are three Harry Potter books in there and two Hunger Games books in there in the top 10 best books.
Then you compare it to the best books of the 20th century ( still one harry potter book in there in top 10 but they are still doing way better than the 21st century.
How did the quality of the "greatest" works fall down so quickly. It is like humanity has forgotten how to write anything with any depth anymore and it is all at the level of quality of teenage story writing.
Is it simply over for the writing genre as a whole or is it that the best quality writing is actually no longer being recognized as the best because it didn't sell enough copies nor got enough appreciation from writing critics, or is it that there is a complete disconnect between what the average person considers enjoyable writing and what is considered actually good high brow writing?
I think it is a shift in medium where all the people looking for depth and high quality in their literary works moved on to movies and video games instead and all who are still hanging around the writing genre are those who will pick a random niche and the general books based on lowest common denominator which is teenage angst or teenage wonderment slop.
What this means is that the writing genre is going to keep going further down in quality over time and we need to look at the possible extinction of reading one day if everything turns out to be possible to be done by video because people are clearly getting worse at appreciating literature while getting a whole lot better at their expectations and appreciation of better video entertainment content.
Conclusion:
In terms of ease of entry into the writing department this is the easiest time period. In terms of making money from it, likely one of the harder time periods. We can expect the quality of writing meant for general audiences to have reached the lowest floor and never rise above it again this generation. The Zoom zooms are too r-slurred when it comes to quality writing in just a book.
Also if you still read Harry Potter books, READ ANOTHER BOOK!

The embargo for reviews of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has lifted. We don't have a review on the site here at Polygon. This is not an editorial decision; we had hoped to review the game. On Jan. 2, Polygon requested a code for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 from Warhorse Studios, the studio behind the game, and received no response. On Jan. 7, we reached out to the PR firm working with Warhorse, who told us they were "not able to provide access. We'll let you know if this changes." We reached out to parent company Plaion on Jan. 9 as well β no response. On Jan. 10, we saw our peers publishing early previews for the game. We re-upped our request and were again told we would not be given access.
This was very unusual. But this was the situation that transpired with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It can be difficult to tell when a studio's decision to withhold a code from a publication is intentional and personal. That's due in part to the fact that the process for getting advance review codes is about as rote and administrative as it gets. Sometimes, PR firms working for studios send us codes unsolicited in hopes we'll cover the game in question. Other times, we request codes from the game's representatives ourselves, several weeks ahead of the release date, and we get those codes when and if they are available.
As part of our final request for code on Jan. 10, Polygon's editor-in-chief Chris Plante contacted Plaion and Warhorse's PR firm to get a comment as to why we were denied advance access to the game. He stressed in his message that our hope is that this decision wasn't due to any personal bias against Polygon, nor motivated by any of our previous coverage of games made by Warhorse or any other. In short, we wanted to know: Was Polygon being blacklisted?
On Jan. 10, we did receive a response to this request stating that we could get one code for the game on launch day, Feb. 4. We did not receive any clarification as to how this decision was made. Nor did we receive the requested clarification on why the developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 declined to provide Polygon access to the game.
Because we will not receive access to this game until its public release, our review is nonetheless forthcoming but will not be published in time for its release date. We look forward to telling you more about this game in the weeks to come.
KIA Gloats
And now, for the why. From Charlie Hall's review (12 February 2018)
"The game is also not without its controversies. Warhorse is a team of more than 150 people, but the game's creative director has gone out of his way to rationalize his support of G*merGate, a loosely knit hate group that has devoted time to harassing women, people of color and journ*lists in the past. So outspoken is the studio's leadership on cultural issues that they have found it necessary to work with a German outlet to publish anti-fascist, anti-sexist and anti-racist statements prior to their game's launch."
Thank you for that completely unnecessary bank-shot that turned a poor review into a politically motivated hit piece. And you wonder why they weren't lining up for more of that?

Nobody would argue that fascism isn't racist because ultranationalism is a tenet of fascism. No one argued liberalism isn't democratic because democracy is a tenet of liberalism. Autocracy is not a tenet of communism. In fact, it is the exact opposite. There is no country on earth that claims to have achieved the goals of communism, but the western world labels these countries as communist nations because they espouse the goals of communism. This is akin to calling a construction company a finished building. Are you religious at all? I might have a good analogy for you. (2)

You dumb BIPOCs were elected to make eggs cheaper and kick out immigrants, not to open on the most r-slurred fricking week in all of politics.
In his first week, President Trump:
Renamed the Gulf of Mexico
Withdrew from WHO for no fricking reason
Froze medicaid, meals on wheels, student loans and farm subsidies because they're woke
Prepared to enter a trade war with Europe over fricking Greenland and a trade war against Canada for no reason
All and all, an astonishingly shit first week that is a mind-blowing political failure
POV you're a West Virginian 70 year old Trump voter who didn't want to starve to death
So, a shitty first week. But kek on frens, that's not what it's about, is it? It's about winning. It's about the vibe shift. It's about being able to say r-slur in public, and honestly I feel that. You won. You totally won.
Just not on being unwoke. You dumb fricking r-slurs won on the economy;
Even immigration, Trump's strongest social issue, is a distant 4th to the economy. But all Trump is focused on is doing is scoring pointless cultural victories, like banning s from the military or ending affirmative action in hiring federally.
And this is the bombshell; Americans by and large liked wokeness.
The majority of Americans, with the exception of literal boomers, consider being woke a good thing. You don't like woke. Your friends don't like woke, I don't like woke. But no poll has come out to say outright that the American people by and large have a negative opinion of woke, wokeness or DEI. Yes, even DEI - it's popularity is backsliding, but it still commands a popular majority.
You dumb BIPOCs are fricked come 2026 and 2028.

So if you've been on the internet, you're used to those challenges that ask who would win between two animals e.g. bear vs lion, alligator vs polar bear. There's tons of YouTube channels dedicated to that shit. Today, I'd like to ask a different question - who would win in an all-out battle between the Hutus of Rwanda and the Zulus of South Africa. Let's take a look at their basic stats.
Hutus and the World's Greatest Manlet Uprising
My aim here isn't to provide a history lesson on the Rwandan genocide, but just to give an overview of the Hutus and what they're capable of. There had been tension between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes in Rwanda since colonial times. The colonisers saw the Tutsis as superior because they were taller and had slender noses unlike the shorter Hutus. Once Rwanda gained independence, many people and parties vied for power, but the Hutus won out, as they had greater numbers, and many Tutsis were driven out of the country. During this time of Hutu rule, Hutus were taught to hate Tutsis and see them as extremists and traitors.
In 1994, a plane carrying President Habyarimana and Burundi's President Cyprien Ntaryamira, was shot down, and the Tutsis were blamed for the attack. Almost immediately, the message was sent out to "cut the tall trees". This was a call for Hutus all over the country to begin slaughtering Tutsis. Over a hundred days, 800,000 Tutsi were subjected to r*pe and murder. It was a bloodbath, and everyone participated in it, including ordinary Hutus who had been led to believe Tutsis are the enemy.
Hutus had firearms, but ordinary citizens made use of machetes to kill Tutsis, and they killed their own co-workers neighbors, and local business owners. By the end of it over 40% of the population had been killed or had fled. This should serve as a stern warning - don't frick with manlets. When we rise up, we do so with much ferocity.
Zulus - Africa's Most Successful Tribe?
So this is the tribe I belong to. I've never taken a DNA test but my entire family is Zulu. The Zulu have a reputation for being fierce warriors and they've participated in more than a few genocides in addition to indulging in a bit of slavery. Zulu culture is very militaristic, and being a warrior is synonymous with being a man (Ndoda). When I turned 21, I was gifted a spear and animal-skin shield from my father as a sign that I had entered manhood.
Under the leadership of Shaka Zulu, the tribe expanded its territory. This period is known as the "Mfecane" and it is estimated that up to 2 million people were killed by Zulus. The tribe is also greatly respected by the British and the Zulu royalty famously has a close relationship with British royalty. This is in part because the Zulus are about the only African tribe that have ever beaten the British in a battle, specifically the Battle of Isandlwana in which the British were defeated by Zulus with inferior weaponry. It should be noted that while the Zulus won the battle, the British did win the Anglo-Zulu War.
Today, there are about 12 million Zulus with most of them concentrated in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Setting up the battleground
So, we want to make things a fair match-up between the two tribes. So let's imagine that the different tribes are unified (all 12 million Zulus working together, and all 11 million Hutus are working together). They are armed with their traditional weapons i.e. Hutus have their machetes and Zulus have their spears and shields.
Since the Zulus have 1 million more people, I'll give the Hutus an advantage and say that the battle takes place on their homeground - Rwanda. The Zulus have come around to seize territory and it is up to the Hutus to defend their country and their tribe.
Neither group may ask for outside help, and the West/UN cannot interfere.
A few things to consider
Hutus have a few advantages. They are on home ground, so they know the lay of the land. Secondly, the Rwandan genocide demonstrated that the Hutus are capable of swift and decisive genocide in a short period of time and can be ruthless. However, there are some disadvantages. While they can work in unison, they haven't demonstrated the kind of organised military that the Zulus have demonstrated they are capable of. Secondly, though Zulus won't be on home ground, this isn't something new and they are used to claiming uncharted territory. The Hutus, using machetes, have to get up close to murder while the Zulus can fling spears. However, throwing a spear makes it a single-use weapon, whereas a machete can be used to kill multiple people.
Personal thoughts
I'm betting my money on the Zulus. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be an epic battle and no side would get away without mass casualties. Additionally, I think the Hutus as a whole are more ruthless and violent, and they're more willing to use obscene methods of torture such as r*pe and cannibalism. However, I believe a well-organized Zulu army is going to trounce most African tribes, as it has in the past.

A state senator in Mississippi has filed a bill entitled the "Contraception Begins at Erection Act."
As written by Sen. Bradford Blackmon, the bill would make it "unlawful for a person to discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo."
There are also fines involved, the third strike resulting in the loss of $10,000 from the perpetrator.
In a statement to WLBT News, Blackmon wrote, "All across the country, especially here in Mississippi, the vast majority of bills relating to contraception and/or abortion focus on the woman's role when men are fifty percent of the equation.
This bill highlights that fact and brings the man's role into the conversation. People can get up in arms and call it absurd but I can't say that bothers me."

Mayor Adams kicked off the two-day summit with a rousing speech in which he likened himself to a hero in the war against rats.
"I don't think there's been a mayor in history that says how much he hates rats," he said. "I dislike rats."
Exterminators weren't invited to the event, and neither were the city's rats. Kathleen Corradi, whom Adams appointed as the city's first "rat czar" last year, described the event as a space where rodent experts could share their philosophical treatises.
We are already losing the WAR ON RATS
Matt Frye, of New York State Integrated Pest Management, entered the rat symposium espousing a more diplomatic approach for dealing with Adams' public enemy No. 1.
"The 'war on rats' mentality may not be the best approach for our urban areas," he said.
Dr. Chelsea Himsworth, founder of the Vancouver Rat Project, compared the never-ending fight to the WAR ON DRUGS β and said health officials should focus on harm reduction instead of eliminating the vermin altogether.
"It can't be solved," Himsworth solemnly declared. "It can only be managed."
"I've handled 700 rats myself," said Byers, who fondly recalled driving around Vancouver in a "rat van," capturing rats, collecting their feces and urine, and even anesthetizing the rodents to pick fleas off their skin.
"They're symbols about a lack of resources in your community," she added. "Rats live in tight social groups, When you remove some, you change how they interact with each other. You're changing how you fight for their social hierarchy. And they do urinate on each other that whole time."
"They're just like us," Corradi, Rat Czar of NYC tells us as she bounds into a planter, pushes aside long stalks of milkweed, and points out the entrance to a burrow. "They want to live in a nice place, have food nearby, and not get into too much trouble if they can."
VICTORY! Rat Birth Control Trial Passes Unanimously in New York City Council
https://www.peta.org/blog/rat-birth-control-program-nyc/
Instead of using glue traps, poison, snap traps, or other methods that maim and kill rats instead of preventing their presence, break the cycle of violence.
