This afternoon I had a connection in Paris🇫🇷
If I was flying, I would walk between soulless airport terminals.
Instead, I cycled through central Paris. My connection itself was a sightseeing adventure.
Taking a bike on holiday allows you to see and do so much more - it's liberating (especially if it's foldable).
By plane, I'd have to pay something close to a million euros to take something this heavy.
By train, it's free 😎
Someone said to me this morning "I wouldn't travel for 3 days because it takes time out my holiday".
Sure, by plane, travel time is wasted.
But by train, travelling is enriching and the slower you do it, the more you see.

Hi: just been fairly violently mugged. Please don't trust anything from my accounts for a while
I'm a stay-at-home disabled dad to 2 kids (toddler + 2nd grade), and quite literally can't count the number of times over the last 8 years that I've had people at parks threaten to (or actually do) call the police on me, verbally berate me, etc.
Words words words
Do you think cops should be responsible for finding homeless people homes? You can't just throw them all in jail.
We used to do just that, and it worked just fine.
Watching kids play literally improves my mood and makes me happy. It reminds me of a bygone era without too many responsibilities or too much stress. I live not far away from a public park with a small playground; sometimes when I am tired of coding I take a short walk there, watch the kids for a bit and come back refreshed. Kids are so energetic, but somehow the sight and sound of kids playing can impart energy to me.
Vladimir Nabokov had a beautifully written description of kids playing:
What I heard was but the melody of children at play, nothing but that, and so limpid was the air that within this vapor of blended voices, majestic and minute, remote and magically near, frank and divinely enigmatic—one could hear now and then, as if released, an almost articulate spurt of vivid laughter, or the crack of a bat, or the clatter of a toy wagon, but it was all really too far for the eye to distinguish any movement in the lightly etched streets. I stood listening to that musical vibration from my lofty slope, to those flashes of separate cries with a kind of demure murmur for background, and then I knew that the hopelessly poignant thing was not Lolita’s absence from my side, but the absence of her voice from that concord.
(In the novel the protagonist abused Lolita and was feeling remorseful for robbing her of a proper childhood playing with other kids.)
Let me preface this by saying that obviously nobody knew exactly what Notch's beliefs were back when this happened. It would have been very cool to add this milestone, he was the creator behind one of the biggest games ever after all, and for a relatively niche gaming subreddit, that's really cool. Of course now we know a lot more about Notch that maybe taints that moment in hindsight.
If you're not aware, Notch has a lot of... let's say interesting ideas about the current state of the world and the people in it. There's a lot... but I'll just mention one that is important to me. Notch believes that Trans women are not women, that those who "claim" to be women are mentally ill, and that the concept of Trans-ness is evil. This is the same language that has been used to de-legitimize and put trans women in danger for hundreds of years now.
As a trans member of this subreddit, when I read that milestone, I don't think it reflects what it probably used to. And it's a reminder to me that there are people out there who would excuse the awful views of people who have created things that they enjoy, because it makes them uncomfortable. But I don't think that reflects the user and moderator base of this subreddit, so I wanted to bring up this topic for people to discuss further. Thanks for reading.
The arguments given for keeping the Notch achievement around, history, humor, defense of his right to be offensive, are all reasonable and have their place. However, they are not stronger than the arguments for removal. Encouragement of his ideas threatens the wellbeing of humans and maintaining this achievement is a tacit endorsement of him. We don't seek to silence him but we can choose not to amplify his influence.
We agree with OP's suggestion that it is time to remove this achievement from the sidebar and will be doing so shortly.

let me get this straight, ordering food delivery is "degeneracy" now?

I can't help but admit to some schadenfreude here. Where are all the claims of doordash being a private business that can do whatever it wants? Why isn't anyone advocating to build your own food delivery platform?
Sex work is consensual, doesn't target anyone, does not create a victim, doesn't diminish anyone else's rights, so why would it be comparable to hate-mongers being de-platformed?
So, in this instance it's bad because it's happening to people you don't dislike?
Yes?? Humans have preferences and think some things are good and some are bad.
just make your own food delivery service :^)
