Fear Grimace: Images of what is considered a soy boy usually demonstrates the man using a facial expression known as the fear grimace. The fear grimace is the posture of exposing the entire mouth wide-open, with the lower teeth visible. If you google fear grimace you can see images of primates performing the same act. The idea is that the fear grimace is a sign of submissiveness and to show the viewing party that you are not a threat. Primates do this as a self-defense mechanism. The idea with the soy boy is that he will make this fear grimace when posing for a photo, showing that he is actually scared of what people will think of him when viewing the photo. So he poses with the fear grimace in order to appear jovial, submissive, and non-threatening.
