However the situations in which ledditors feel the need to bring this up and the extent to which they vehemently defend this idea is very suspect. Not a hill a normal person wants to die on.
I totally understand that, and it's not something I defend all that much, but when someone links my comment on another sub to make fun of me I feel like I gotta defend my stance a little bit
You didn't take it that far and didn't die on the hill as I put it. In that thread you only made two comments and they were both basic and rational. So nothing against you yourself. You definitely fit into the "not in and of itself a controversial statement" part.
