What: a festival celebrated in East Asia and also a few other Asian countries outside of East Asia. Mostly associated with moon cakes.

When: usually in September during full moon.

Why: used to celebrate for successful harvest but now it’s more for mooncakes.

Mooncakes

What: thick round pastries often decorated with Chinese words on the crust and have soft fillings inside. They are rich in taste, expensive and high in calories. 5 star hotels in Asia release their own mooncakes around this time. One box can easily cost you $100.

Collecting boxes: mooncakes come in luxurious boxes like this and these. It’s common for people to collect these boxes. I have several of my own.
