When to Use White Text on a Dark Background

Author has an opinion about color schemes - he says: "white text on black background is like... not very good... like totally, for real". I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist.

He states the science without citing any sources. This triggers the "experts". They decides to destroy OP with facts and logic. But OP is not the kind to surrender without putting up a fight.
