Combine man's natural compulsion to feeling special, even if he has to invent fantastical stories to do so with an aversion to admitting that you aren't perfect and that you might have health issues and you get people who deliver pizzas for a living talking about how a shadowy organization spends tens of millions of dollars employing a hundred full time agents just to harass them.
