Anime isn't just a bunch of cheap American ripoffs of cartoons, it's art. Next time you American sheeple are watching your simpsons or south park or whatever mindless American cartoons that have plots, storylines and comedy, I'll be Admiring the wonderful and superior art of Chinese cartoons.
£100k for a senior front end developer in London is really good, plus I know Facebook offer a decent bonus. My total comp is around the same as his basic and I’m only a bit younger than him :(
Also while Dan clearly is a smart dude, the big brain bois behind React are Jordan Walke, Brian Vaughn and Seb Markbage.
I guess if he wanted more P he could go contracting or take one of the many offers he presumably gets. I got a look in once at one of those insane jobs at a big quant fund and it was £120k + 50% guaranteed cash bonus but I fucked up the final interview (which was 2 5 hour coding sessions spread over 2 days, kinda mad) after having to take 2 exams, normal coding test and be interviewed by like 5 guys in an intimidating panel format. Dan is so famous they would probably just get him in to make the company appear cool and would just throw money at him, so it’s not like he doesn’t have the option
Do they count bonuses and benefits? Like salaries in Western Europe always seem lower, but they include what the government takes (in exchange for rights to retirement and healthcare among others).
So you'd need to compare what everyone gets paid before taxes (and maybe factor in cost of living).
That's what businesses that often hire people from abroad do (when negociating salaries).
This isn’t including bonuses and benefits. Salaries over here definitely don’t include what the governments takes, you only ever get shown pre-tax salaries.
I’d guess he’s probably got a £15k bonus, £5-10k car allowance. Still a very high salary compared to the rest of the country. For a software developer it’s good but nothing crazy
Dan fucking Abramov only getting paid $130k is the undercut of the century. Dude would be making 2x that in the Bay Area easily. Especially with his renown and his track record of shipping big projects, he can and should be making $500k/yr base salary. It's a travesty.
He’s definitely not pushing for salary because if he wants he could be making double that. I’ve got a theory he’s constrained by being on a VISA that means he’s tied to Facebook so he has zero leverage since he can’t leave.
Still though for London he’s pushing upper limit for a senior front end developer. When your lead is someone like Seb Markbage even a guy like Dan is going to seriously struggle to take his job, if he ever could at all, and I doubt Dan pushes because he’s too much of a wet flannel.

Sure. You’ll first have to buy some socks tho.
