The police were responding to a report of gunshots fired at a park. The basketball Americans didn't hear any gun shots and were just chilling there. Cops show up too investigate and the basketballs split up and flee. Both get caught, the guys friend who complied with the cops only got a civil ticket and was released, while the uppity sovereign citizen basketball got his ass handed to him for resisting arrest and being black.
Moral of the story, if you're not doing anything illegal don't take off running from the cops for no reason, and if you do and are caught don't be a smart ass especially if you're black.
In a news conference Thursday, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea told reporters that police were patrolling the area after receiving an alert about shots being fired in the vicinity.
The officers spotted two young men smoking weed, whom Shea said ran in different directions as they were approached.
Though there is "nothing to indicate" that the two young men were in any way connected to the shots reported, he said police "didn't know that as they were arriving at the scene."
"When you have two people take off running — I've been in that situation myself. You don't know what you have," Shea said.
