I used to like him but after you read a few of his books you start to hate him. Terrible dialogue and humor. Way too much time world building and every problem is solved by magic.

The dialogue seems pretty good to me considering how otherworldly the characters are. There is a lot of time spent world building but I enjoy that, this universe is thankfully much more original than the usual dwarves/elves/humans combination. Every problem being solved by magic is definitely a weakness but that’s kind of par for the course in fantasy novels. Plus I’ve only read one book so I don’t recognize any trope reuse by the author yet.

If you like world building and original stories pick up Malazan. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's much better than anything Sanderson is churning out these days. Plus it is actually finished.
