Edit: I think you're missing the point. Bats meat spreads various diseases etc. We know this, people joke about it, even if the jokes aren't very funny. I really doubt people give a shit beyond the issue that eating bats specifically probably isn't a smart move during an outbreak, regardless of origin. I really don't see any Western pride being hurt by people, Chinese or otherwise, risking their health to eat bats lol. Eating bat meat isn't part of Chinese cuisine, it's Palau cuisine. The Chinese lady you saw was visiting Palau and eating a bat on a travel show. It was bizarre and strange to her and largely a gimmick, like the guy on bizarre foods going and eating the grossest looking and sounding dishes that are part of a local cuisine.

China has entirely banned and shut down the markets in question. Which do not sell bats. This is not necessarily because they are the cause, merely the possibility.

I think the concentration on China has been a distraction. I would not mind it at much of it were in addition to, rather than in place of, other methods. However it's becoming increasingly clear that it's in place of. My niece and nephew are currently running a 103 fever and receiving albuterol every four hours. They can't be tested for coronavirus because there are no tests available. In a state which officially has one case. That one case is a doctor BTW, for certain he got it from one of his patients we don't even know about. And today several coworkers suddenly called in and announced they were sick. Can't be tested. State officially has 30 cases. The government is lying and doesn't give a shit, they're doing nothing to combat it, the denial is much worse than anything that existed in China at any point. At least in China once national officials were aware they immediately jumped on the case.

In America our government is just sleep walking. I don't give a fuck about the Chinese, pandemics can start anywhere. I am mad that our government is still using xenophobia in place of an actual effective internal plan. These memes aid the government in its denial campaign, they are propaganda.
