What actually happened:

gambler places a series of terrible SPY/F500 bets off fourthhand discord speculation and calls brokerage asking to “undo” the trade

brokerage obviously denies the bid, gambler doubles down and tries a chargeback, likely relying on his mother pulling a "I did not authorize this transaction" move in the account he made in her name

With bank involved, given the sheer volume of loss (and 🤑commissions 🤑), brokerage offers op some stfushekels

A cursory look at Questtrade’s policies shows the OP would be covered up to $10,000,000 if they actually screwed up. Likely their coverage with the fed is even higher.

And that’s really why WSB is one of the best subs on reddit.
