It's nothing to do with not eating meat. It's because people who don't eat meat for whatever reason are more likely to care about the fact that animals are raised and killed in the way they are and be personally affected by it.

Alternative view: we don’t care. I know exactly what a slaughterhouse looks like. I’ve seen the factory farms. Don’t care. Those systems let me get my meat at cheap prices and I’m happy about it. I’m not delusional at all, I know exactly what the reality looks like. I simply am fine with it.
