There needs to be a Blockchain-based forum system. It could be built on top of the "BSV" fork of Bitcoin because this fork still has zero fee transactions and also a block size of 100MB which would be enough for text. All Bitcoin forks support general data posts (part of Satoshi's original protocol), meaning you can already post text instead of money transactions. The block size would probably not be enough for pictures though, and certainly not enough for videos. But Reddit didn't support pictures either for a long time. It used to be that people would just link to Imgur.
There would need to be a special browser for such a system, like Tor Browser is needed to browse the tor network. The biggest hurdle would be to get people to install and use it.
There would have to be an association network system. One could flag other accounts that one likes, and only see the posts of those people. Then go through their like-flagged accounts to discover more. Twitter is mostly garbage, but you don't see it because you follow certain accounts. And you can always find more interesting accounts through their retweets and follows.
An additional system could be optional mods. People could be mods and flag stuff for spam, and every user would decide which mods he would trust. Then his personal view would be curated by the flags of those mods.
Or there could be a single feed like 4chan, and you can use the filter list of other users who volunteer to moderate. If a mod became tyrannical, people would stop using their filter list, and the community could police itself that way. I think we should stay away from an account system because that breeds reddit-style popularity contests and tripfagging. Instead it should stay anonymous and wild-west.
To figure out the most optimal system though we would need to make it so all systems exist in a single platform and pick content out from a database. That way people don't have to go board jumping to find the best system.
The idea of staying away from accounts is one that personally I think is good, but in reality struggles to create a usable system. It can create 4chan-esque chaotic discussion, but it doesn't work for anything that requires identities. Can't form a clan for gaming, can't have a private space, can't block and entire persons content from your feed.
I have spent way to long thinking about how to do this, and so far what I have come up with is:
A fully decentralized metadata system (could be "blockchain" based, or it could be based on other systems).
Media and content is hosted using IPFS so you only ever need to share hashes rather than full files in metadata.
"Users" identified by a pubkey pair (ala bitcoin)
Posts are made to a feed which can be subdivided based on topic to an unlimited level, such as used in MQTT topics. You subscribe to a feed to get all of that raw data.
A feed should be able to be "claimed", this with be the new system equivalent of a domain name with TLDs. As part of the root metadata of the feed, it would set a key that is the owners signature.
To manage a claimed feed, anybody can still drop a file in the decentralized network routed to that feed but the UI will only show signed "posts" by the claimant. You would still have the option to view "raw" feed, but this would be a huge at your own risk thing.
The feed manager is a daemon that runs on their server and will sign posts as they are made to say they are "approved", this way they can introduce any level of authentication and authorization to feed posting that they want. If the daemon server goes down, it simply stops updating but no existing content is lost.
There should be a simple option to "remod" an entire feed, where is basically duplicates all the posts on the feed to a new one, but this time applies your own criteria for moderation. This provides the ability to revive dead feeds or to essentially fork a community if you don't like the moderation.
A forked community should also support maintaining the feed from the original source, so the new community is still receiving the full feed content and simply providing an alternative moderated view. The dramatically reduces mod power of their community while still allowing a community to keep it focused and spam free.
There should be some basic proof of work required to post to the feed such that it is not inconvenient to a mobile user but that it prevents mass spamming being too easy.
Ultimately I think most people would end up having some kind of authorization based system to keep spammers out, but basic house cleaning like that wouldn't impart any particular power to the mods because of how easy it would be to move on but keep everything. Janny would be bottom of the barrel where they belong.
To keep spammers out you can have it cost a small amount of crypto every time you post, so that it would be effectively free to post once but very expensive to post a million times. This would have the added benefit of letting the forum be hosted as a coin ledger, where every transaction has an added post attached, so that miners are responsible for hosting the forum in a P2P fashion.
This was my thinking, but I am undecided on how the mining should work, should it be a proof of work, or perhaps a proof of "hosting" and have it tied to replicating media on IPFS (which I think they already do).
The devil is in the details with any system like this, but I think it really has to be the next big step. Small steps can be made with federated systems but the big leap has to be full decentralization.

Users generate a wallet and can create and subscribe to different “feeds” or topics which are just public keys.
