The only thing I can confidently, passionately say after all the shit that happened in the last six years is that anyone - rightoid or leftoid - who unironically holds political opinions and who thinks that discussing (I.E. circlejerking) said opinions with strangers on the Internet contributes in any way to society is a literal mongoloid.

I’m sorry you feel that way. While circle jerking your own side may just be self gratifying, arguing with those who disagree with you can be self improving.

Sure, most of it will be brainlet mud slinging, but rarely, you get one of the few real conversations worth having, and out of those conversations, your perception of the world only sharpens and expands.

To deny your own self growth by balancing a tent on the fence post and declaring everyone else the fool makes you no better.

That's the problem, though.

When left to their own devices, people will literally never argue with those they disagree with. They'll say they do, but in reality, all they'll ever do is form an echo chamber with people who think exactly like they do, because it's something intrinsic to the idea of identifying yourself as belonging to a certain ideology. People define themselves by who they hang around with, and so if political opinions define who you are, then they also define who you talk to. This eventually creates a positive feedback loop that ends with the shitty circlejerks you see on Reddit, Twitter, and 4chan these days.

At least when you go "radical centrist", and completely disassociate serious political discussion from your identity, you spare yourself that fate - for a while longer, at least. You delay the formation of huge biases that'll cloud your judgment and make you contribute about as much to the debate as a loaf of stale bread contributes to society.

For most of them, they aren’t thinking. You are correct, it’s an identity, a brand and nothing more.

You know this because if 100 people from different walks of life, experiences, and education all have the exact same views on 30 different debates, they can’t possibly be thinking. Most topics people argue about have great points on both sides, and no free thinking person should be 100% in agreement with anyone else.

You don’t have to be on a side completely, but you should be on a side for each issue where a middle ground doesn’t exist.

Within each community there exists people who still think. I’ll come out and say I’m super heavily right. I believe in ethnonationalism. But I’m also pro environmental protection, pro abortion, and pro legalized drug use (although I support a policy that heavily stigmatizes their consumption).

I have had excellent discussions on this platform with people who disagree with me, and have opened my mind to learning about myself.

Don’t let the parrots dissuade you. Don’t be a “radical centrist” or any pointless label. Take a stand, debate, and grow. You’re worth it.
