Alexander's army stopped Greek invasion more than the Indians. Quite a few Indians got BTFO before his army said "mate, we've been marching for twelve years, it would be nice to go home at some point".
Alexander beat small Indian kingdom on the field of battle. He would have been utterly stomped by the Nanda empire that was slightly to the east. They had 300,000 infantry, 50,000 cavalry, 10,000 War elephants. Alexander's army at the time was a total 40,000.
Firstly, no, they did not have that number, even by ancient sources. Secondly, if we're trusting ancient sources then Alexander beat an army far greater then that already.
And finally, to seriously believe that they had 10,000 war elephants shows absolutely no common sense.
Diodorus states that the Nanda army had a total of 200,000 infantry, 20,000 cavalry, 4000 war elephants and 2000 Four horse chariots.
Plutarch states that the Nanda army had a total of 200,000 infantry, 80,000 cavalry, 6000 elephants, and 8000 chariots.
Alexander himself heard: 200,000 infantry, 20,000 cavalry, 3000 elephants and 2000 chariots.
Alexander's army at the battle of the Hydaspes was around 47,000. Porus fielded 85 war elephants and 30,000 infantry with 4,000 cavalry.
The 85 war elephants of Porus caused severe shock the elite Greek Phalanx. Imagine 3,000.
Even if the numbers were doubly exaggerated for the Indians, they would have held an immense strategic advantage purely due to size of units.
Alexander and his army knew he wouldn't able to defeat such a force in their own back yard.
Modern estimates of the Persian force at Guagamela are around 100,000. Bear in mind, most of these were poorly equipped light troops, and the only significant infantry contingent were the 2000 Greek hoplites.
I remember Plutarch saying Alexander faced and beat a million men led under Darius, I'm pretty sure Diodorus said around the same.
All you've proven is that you got the size of literally every single unit type wrong, by all ancient sources originally, and even now you've got the information correct by the ancient sources, the same guys said Alexander beat an army five times as big than the one you think scared him away.
It's just pure bullshit, dude. You should at least know the most rudimentary elements of something before you try and correct someone on it.
Well, since Alexander never defeated the Nanda empire despite crossing into it's lands, we will never know if Alexander could have defeated such an army of war elephants.
All we know is that the Greeks ran with their tail between their legs, just like the Selucids when Chandragupta strolled Into their lands.
I just want to add that this is not only his personal theory or some kind of cope, but some (not all! here he is wrong) historians also do believe this.
Some do, I know, but it's still a god awful theory. Have you ever heard of Hawkes ladder of inference?
It's reckoned that the Achaemenid empire held close to half the worlds population, and the ancient sources give five times the amount of troops that it could muster compared to the Nanda Empire. It just does not stand up to reason that Alexander got scared of the size of its army and ran home, given what we know of his character, what he'd already beaten, and the now larger army he had by incorporating several Persian units into his army.
Christ, he marched his troops through a desert on the way back to prove that he could.
Dont talk shit about Mukesh uncle. He just did really good for himself. Anil uncle is in the fucking dumps tho. His son Anshul is trynna dj and since he broke the joke is started from the bottom now we here.

Even if they didn't have that number, they would have far outnumbered Alexander anyway. Alexander and his army knew they had no chance.

I would recommend taking a cursory glance at the history of Alexander if you think being seriously outnumbered stopped him from being victorious.

Why the fuck would the Nanda empire let him cross into its land? It would make sense to destroy Alexander before he even reaches the borders.
