Laci Green is or used to be a sex vlogger on Youtube. As with many internet personalities, she had a Tumblr account. It surfaced that in her earlier videos, she had used the word 'tranny' and made comments criticising Islam (she is atheist but had grown up in a Muslim household). A few tumblrites got a hold of this and chewed her out. Here is a better recap.

Green apologised and removed the offending videos. However, she received this threatening PM. Green contacted the police, moved, and went offline.

Author John Green, unrelated to Laci Green, decided to get involved.

leads to drama. One user is upset that John Green even typed out the word tranny, nevermind that he didn't use it in a derogatory way. They inform him:

The minute you use a slur that doesn't belong to you is the minute you lose all credibility. The t-word is NOT okay for you to say. It doesn't belong to you.

John Green responds and gets hundreds of notes. Plenty of them are not happy with his explanation.
