Battleground Europe (That old WW2 game that was really hard basically). Biased-allied administrator decides to restart the server just as the axis are about to cap the largest city in the game which takes hours of work. (The Antwerp Incident)...

Hey.

So basically a pretty big thing went down in BattleGround Europe, a large-scale WW2 simulation game. It basically went down like this, I find bullet-point form will be an easier way to tell the story:

  • Antwerp is the biggest city in the game, it's a huge city to capture and will result in much-needed supply for whichever side possesses it

  • Axis have pushed the allied frontline all the way back to Antwerp, this means they've captured numerous towns, cities and docks. (capping towns and cities in this game is not as easy as standing in a CP for 60 seconds, it can take hours, days, weeks to capture a town sometimes)

  • Antwerp is the largest city in the game and therefore the hardest to cap, if Axis capture this city they gain valuable supply and have essentially won the campaign

  • Axis attacked the city and capped all but 2 CPs within the city, 2 more CPs and they've won the campaign

  • An allied player by the name of 'DOC' who also happens to be an administrator decides to take down the server for maintenance with just a 10 minute warning, he disables killing and capturing CPs just incase the axis still manage to capture it. It's quite coincidental that he decided to do this when the allies were basically unable to recapture the CPs they lost as they had lost valuable spawns

  • The server is reset and the town is completely reset and is in allied control again, hours of Axis work down the drain and a shitstorm ensues

  • Many axis high-command (experienced vets who have been playing for years) desert their post and leave the game forever, the Axis is basically left in dissarray

  • The rest of the axis playerbase decide to give the map to the allies, putting up no resistance in what's called a 'pity map'

  • DOC starts banning people who speak out against the decision and the player base begins to decline and drama starts between allied and axis players.

  • CRS (the devs) are being criticized left and right.

I thought it was quite interesting.

TLDR: Axis almost win the game, asshole allied-biased administrator takes down the server to stop them.

Unfortunately the links are now broken as the dev team behind Battleground Europe have removed the forum from MMORPG, most likely due to the criticism of the game there and their inability to accept an opinion not in line with their own.
