Everybody is going nuts over a fucking button

Here's the story: On April 1rst, /u/powerlanguage created The Button. The Button is a sixty-second timer that is reset every time the button is pressed. You get a custom flair on the sub depending on when you pressed the button, or whether you pressed the button. Does this sound like the sort of thing Reddit would make a big deal about?

First, the easy jokes started coming in complete with /r/thebuttondrama getting formed as a result.

Then, came the religions. You think I kid? People are masturbating over this button like it's the Helix Fossil. That's not even the only religion, there are multiple

Some people are debating strategy like some shit's really going to happen when the button falls to 0. Guys, let's conserve our clicks. If we all work together, Reddit will give us one million bitcoin!

What the hell is this?

The drama is apparently affecting real-life locales, such as a local Red Robin diner. I seem to remember those places having some great food. Then again, the last time I went there was so long ago I ate off the kid's menu.

Are you angry with yourself that you clicked on the button? Here's your fucking support group. I can't tell how much of this is circlejerking and how much of it is serious.

More people daisy chaining over the button

It's just a fucking button

Opening old wounds

More faggotry

Jesus, does this need to be all caps?

Speculative circlejerking

For a simple April Fools joke, it really got people riled.
