Dean of Yale sends out email with a list of questions students should ask themselves before deciding upon a costume, as well as links to websites educating students about common racial stereotypes

Associate Master of Silliman College sends out an email telling students that, as a child development specialist, she thinks it's important for young adults to grow and make choices on their own, and that they should discuss among themselves what is or is not offensive rather than letting a college or anyone else dictate it for them.

Shitstorm erupts over her "offensive email". Students calling for her resignation. She invites anyone who wants to discuss her letter to an open lunch, but is harshly rejected, one students responds she “needs to stop instigating more debate.”

Protesters are outside Sillian College, the master who is also her husband confronts them in this video

He states: “I apologize for causing pain, but I am not sorry for the statement. I stand behind free speech. I defend the right for people to speak their minds.”

About half of students walk away after realizing he isn't going to apologize. Students are drafting a formal letter demanding the resignation of him and his wife. Here's another quote from a student:

“Who the fuck hired you?” she asked, arguing that Christakis should “step down” because being master is “not about creating an intellectual space,” but rather “creating a home.”
