Background: Jacob Appelbaum is, per Wikipedia, an activist, journalist, hacker, and developer, involved with Wikileaks and Tor.

On June 2nd, the Tor Blog announced he had stepped down on May 25. No further information was given.

Jake finally raped enough people that Tor as an organisation couldn't ignore it anymore.

The accusers also made a website, http://jacobappelbaum.net/, and a twitter account, https://twitter.com/VictimsOfJake which directly accuses him.

The Tor blog post was linked on /r/tor https://np.reddit.com/r/TOR/comments/4meg02/jacob_appelbaum_leaves_the_tor_project/ where it quickly generated drama:

Strange how people related to Tor always end up acused of rape. That very hard to disprove/prove crime that will forever label a person in a bad way regardless of the outcome.

Today, the Tor Project released a longer statement, confirming that Jacob left due to accusations of "sexual mistreatment", and saying they're working with a law firm and won't say more.

Those who have worked with Jake won't be surprised at all by this. These are accusations coming from multiple people in the tech/privacy/infosec crowd, not from the government.
