/u/Chiren better known as Athene starts a cult. [long]

If this is too long for you just skip the backstory.

Backstory

Bachir "Chiren" Boumaaza aka Athene is someone whom I've been following for close to 10 years. At one point I'd have considered myself a fan of him. While some of his content was hilarious and he has always been the biggest attention whore known to man, his very recent acts are somewhat else. He's a mainly known for being a gaming youtuber, poker player and his charity work. I'm sure some of you may know him.

I'm not too familiar with his very early endeavors, but he started his career of attention seeking in 2001 by participating in Big Brother 2 Belgium. In 2005 he founded a satirical political party called "NEE" (Dutch for no) with the idea or leaving any seats they'd win empty. His girlfriend Tania promised to blow 40,000 of their voters. (NSFW)

I'm not from Beligium but apparently he became a household name during their campaign, but as it so goes the attention was short lived. He and his friends searched for other opportunities, they wrote a book about ringing at every door in Antwerp or something like that, but in 2007 he realized that World of Warcraft was blowing up and published the video that would make him Internet famous: "Best Paladin of The World pwning nubs on My Heart Will Go On from Celine Dion (ATHENE #1)"

It blew up not because the video was entertaining, but due to being perfect clickbait, abusing the old shitty youtube recommendations and thousand of nerds who got mad cause some guy dared to call himself the best Paladin and talked smack. If you're too lazy to watch the video, it's just him and his friend sitting in a messy room, pretending to play WoW and screaming like retards. It sounds stupid, but it's honestly great. He and his team published countless videos (this is my personal favorite) in the same over the top style in the next ~3 years, including a 1:30:00 movie.

Around the year 2010 he and his team started to run out of money, back then it wasn't as easy to make money with a popular youtube channel, and his mom who had appeared in some of his videos told him to get a job. So /u/Chiren started to play Poker. Surprisingly he was actually successful, and while it produced some good content, his youtube following dwindled. He quit playing with a $300,000 profit, but his team split up and only he, Tania and Abraham his video editor stayed with him.

What followed then are long years desperately trying to stay relevant. His way to fame was always to rile up nerds by pretending to be the very best at a game, while his achievements were always some kind of combination of exploiting, paying people to get carried by or just paying someone to play in your name. I'm not going to write about what he did in each game, because that would go way overboard, but here's some League of Legends drama. He would always attract a lot of negative attention, but that is better than none, and while he made some kids mad, I thought it was hilarious.

During these years he started to live-stream like many other "gaming personalities", and to give credit where credit is due, he raised $22 millions for poor African children through his Gaming for Good project. This gave him mainstream media attention in 2012, but only after he went on a hunger strike until Foxnews invited him. His charity work allowed him to work with companies such as razer and curse to this day, and he probably still makes money from these deals.

This might all not sound to bad, the whole "gaming scene" is full of loud and self important people, but Bachir is a special case. While he was never shy to talk about his intelligence and the sharpness of his mind, it took him until 2012 to publish his "God is in the Neurons - Athene's Theory of Everything" a 50 minutes long youtube video that covers both neurology as well as quantum mechanics. It's fancy stock footage of neurons and crowds of people overlayed with pseudo philosophical bullshit. Back then that video was somewhat controversial, but the message isn't harmful, people just made fun of him and moved on.

Current time

One month ago shit started to hit the fan though, when /u/Chiren started to publish a series of videos on "LOGIC NATION: A Psychological Revolution" According to him one can and must change their live by following Athene's four steps:

Step 1: Develop an unconditional trust in logic

Step 2: Find what emotionally drives you

Step 3: Realize that your current core value doesn't provide as much safety as logic

Step 4: Keep making logical decisions to strengthen your trust in logic

What will happen after you make the click

As soon as you make the click, you will experience: a rush of dopamine in your brain; a euphoric feeling; a tremendous relief. (Among other great stuff)

He literally calls this idea "athenism" (or Neuro-Spinozism) and cites Carl Sagan. Like it's common with cults there's some useful advise mixed in with "Logic Nation", working out or eating well aren't bad after all.

The sad thing is that this stupid shit doesn't stay on /r/Makingsense/, their Wiki and chats, but Athene has rented out a building in Germany to allow his followers to live close to him, because of course that's the logical thing to do. People have literally giving up their job or studies to live with some washed up youtuber. You can apply here. Here are people writing about how they made the click and joined "Logic Nation".

His idea of changing the world through logic haven't been unopposed. /r/livestreamfail had a long thread about and many "gaming personalities" have called him out.

He might also be cheating on his long time girlfriend Tania. Look at this clip to see why people think he might. In all honestly I'd be somewhat concerned for Tania, she has been in a relationship with this weirdo for at least 11 years when they were both quite young. I don't think she has any kind of post high school education or work experience and to be quite honest she doesn't appear to be very bright.

Edit: The man himself is live, writing his book.
