Probably about to get special needs guy fired tomorrow. Am I a horrible person?

So to start this story I'll tell you "Greg" is what we will be calling this special needs guy. Greg came to work with almost a year ago. When he first started you could tell something was off about him. He couldnt remember any of your directions, he would often forget his current task, He seemingly ignored customers when spoken too. I ask him what his deal was and he told me he had a learning disability. I am not a manager in our department, but during that time I was the one working with him the most, so I took it upon myself to research how to train people with learning disabilities and so I could help him stay in our department because its manageable but very difficult to run what we do with 3 people, Greg was our 4th. It was frustrating and hard at times but I think we made some progress with his contribution however little he did.

Around 4 months is when the problems started.

I started to notice how he would frequently disappear from the department without telling me where he was going. At first it wasnt anything noticble, but then he would be gone for 15, 20, 25 mins. I found out what he was doing, he would go upstairs to read, because he found the sometimes frequent lack of work difficult to manage somehow. (our job isnt difficult per se, somedays we are extremely busy and somedays we werent). I told him to not do that as even though I understand that it can be boring doing nothing its important to still be present incase something does come up. He stopped. Then he began taking longer breaks, ie: we are required to take 30min break after working a certain amount of hours. I found out about this and started to get him to wait till after I left to take his break.

Now today, his new strategy has been to come in when he is supposed to, punch in, but instead of going to his department when hes needed he stays upstairs. It was a small annoyance for me at first and since I was actually working I could never really prove that he wasnt just coming in late, but today I left to go look for him and he tells me hell be right down already 20min after the hour, I say ok go to the bathroom, come out, hes still there, I rush downstairs to help customers theres a hoard of 8+ people who all need to be served, Its 50mins after the hour and he just now decided to comedown. I lost it tbh, but I still wanted to keep this issue in the department cause I didnt want him to get fired so I tried to talk to him about it, to at least stop him from pulling this crap on my shifts,(cause he never does it on the days he works with our manager) AND HE HAD THE NERVE TO COME AT ME FOR CALLING HIM OUT. So I finally told my department manager because even after all this I wanted to see if we could work this out without getting the general managers involved as they would prob fire him on the spot, and as I said work is difficult with 3 people. But now my department manager seems intent on getting him fired...

TL;DR Calculating special needs guy takes advantage of me, I tell a manager, He's probably getting fired. Am I a horrible person / Or did he have it coming?

That's not called edgy, that's called normal.

2016, the year where "I don't care what your special identity is, either you do can do the job or not" was considered edgy.

lol that's not edgy
