I doubt it's actually popular with the general population. Judging by American pop culture, it looks popular here because the elite love it. It makes them fee progressive without actually challenging any real power center (because the patriarchy isn't real), so it doesn't piss off the advertisers, and no one is more sure life has fucked them over than upper class women.

But it's an unpopular movement, with underwater approvals, and I i.agine it's somewhat similar there.
