House Atreides took over the Arrakis spice trade, and the House Harkonnen is just not having it. Slapfights break out all across the Empire when Harkonnen totally cucks the entire planet. /r/socialism users plan a revolution.

Did you mean to just link the Dune wikk

The CNN news source on it was too fake newsy. Favors the navigator guild way to heavily.

Everyone knows the MSM is owned by (((CHOAM))) anyways.

SIEZE THE MEANS OF SPICE PRODUCTION

Welp, I know what I'm watching this morning.

"We have just folded space from Ix."

Fuck the critics, I love that movie.

Don't get me wrong. On almost every metric you can judge a movie by it is horrible. But I feel almost compelled to watch it at least once a year.

Kind of. The pacing/editing of the movie is a mess. I'll give you that. I'm also not a huge fan of the (dated) electric guitar/eighties elements in the soundtrack.

But the acting is good, the set design is good, the costumes are good, Kyle MacLachlan's chin is spectacular (as always), and it features Picard and Sting and Meat Loaf goddamnit. Despite the flaws, I think they did a decent enough job translating the book to film. It's certainly unique.

The acting is amazing (with the exception of Sting). The worst part is the constant inner monolog.

For me that's part of the charm.

Exactly true

Quick! Someone get Alejandro Jodorowsky's take on all of this!

That dream is dead, low blow. Very sad. : / Would have been a humungous visual accomplishment

It would have made an already opaque novel utterly inscrutable.

I beg to differ. Dune was Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones was Game of Thrones. The movie we are talking about here would have been a huge treat for the eyes. I am not takinf away from the other iterations, butI would have loves to watch it.

Dune was an attempt to shoehorn a tale of Renaissance Italy In Spaaaaaace with ham-handed environmental lesson cobbled to it.

There is no way Alejandro Jodoworsky would have done anything to it that would have left it other than a fevered acid dream.

Implying this wouldnt be great to watch when high. Lol cmon.

You talking the book, or the movie? Because the book was an attempt to tell a story about a guy who has the choice of saving the universe by killing a fucktonne of people, and decides he'd rather not get involved, while a bunch of people try to force him to.

I think it did quite well with that.

Dune wasn't difficult to follow or understand. It's just one of those books that sounds like it would be great to see on the big screen, when in reality it just isn't filmable.

Lynch's completely missed the point. Sci-Fi's mini-series was boring as hell. And from what I've seen of Jodorowsky's concept art, holy hell what a LSD trip that would have been.

Now as for its sequels, talk about opaque (though I rather enjoy, if not outright love, God Emperor of Dune).

Tbh You would have better luck filming the Butlerian Jihad and books thereafter than the OG Dune books which relied a lot more on mysticism. The uprising against the Omnius would be a great story a lot of people could get into. HOWEVER, I did think the miniseries was pretty fun to watch.

when in reality it just isn't filmable.

Except that David Lynch did a pretty damned good job.

It just needed a longer runtime, it got kinda compressed towards the end.

no kinkshame plz
