I watched it for a while. In some ways it's very accurate. The people that hate on it the most seem to be the people that imagine it's just some retarded fantasy and not a reasonably real depiction of certain groups. It got too stupid/depressing for me to watch after the first season or two but it had its moments.

i don't think i've seen the third season, i'm not sure. i feel like i only watched the first two seasons. i honestly felt like it was pretty self aware in those seasons, tho watching Lena Dunham in public doesn't exactly make her seem very self aware lol. who knows, but i enjoyed those two seasons.

It's worth watching the next few, Shoshanna and Jessa in particular get so much character growth, and Marnie's storyline builds to this one episode that's just a masterpiece

Also we get to see more of Adam as his own person separate from Hannah which is nice

I consider it proof that Lena Dunham is a lot more self-aware than she lets on. The character she plays (Hannah) is basically identical to her public persona - and the show gets fucking vicious with Hannah and her blundering.

Honestly, Ray is probably treated as one of the show's most sympathetic characters, and he could not be less like Lena Dunham

Her character in Girls is deliberately made up to look worse. She always seems to look better off set. She has the figure of a dumpling no matter which way you look at it but the shitty too tight clothes, bad makeup, and deliberately unflattering camera angles work surprisingly well to make her look less attractive.

I actually really liked Girls because I thought it was a funny, well written show about a character who is a clueless narcissist. Then I watched one of those "behind the episode" features and it turns out Lena Dunham isn't a great writer, she really is a clueless narcissist. So that makes the show even more entertaining for me.
