Do DM's have an obligation to be fun? Is having too much fun a problem? Find out here on Dndgreentexts

You're oversimplifying a complex situation to the point of adding nothing to the discussion.

I am a bot. (Info / Contact)

Personally I think they do. Which is why /u/AngryDM is my favourite DM.

I'd love to play with him and an ex who would make the most overly sexualized characters ever. It'd be fun to watch him try to control her character's choice in socks.

The whole time he just says "looks at your playing history, laughs smugly, banned"

My problem with this scenario is that someone rolled a 20 and declared that they destroyed an Infinite Plane of Existence. With the Elemental Plane of Fire dead, there should be no fire anywhere which would definitely speed up the heat death of the universe - probably by kickstarting one or all of the Cold-based Epic Evils. Fire-based Gods will be extinguished, rendering many pantheons moot and severely crippled.

I, too, hate fun and demand only the utmost realism in my magical fantasy adventures.

Personally, when the rules of a setting say "you can't do X", my first reaction is to think "yeah but what if I do it anyway"

I used to play a lot of games from White Wolf, so dealing with this question - and seeing angry nerds online treat it as blasphemy - was a pretty frequent occurrence

Lol I feel that, but why not have awesome shit happen that'll affect the game in ways only the dm really understands. People who take d&d too seriously probably shouldn't play it

D&D isn't really my thing, played some derivative of it once and just didn't hook me, but would see the same sort of things in video game fandoms. It was especially prevalent in the games that were more niche or simulator focused.

I remember getting into debates with the type when X3 was in development. Due to the size of the game, it could take 10's of minutes crossing a single sector (space game). The game had 231 of them. There was a concerted effort to remove an ingame item that sped time up to make it reasonable to get anywhere.

Constant bitching and whining that the item made the game worse and wasn't the 'correct' way to play the single player game. They simply could not understand that a person playing a different way than they did had no effect on their enjoyment. There was even a few that wanted to make sure it could not be modded in later either, in a game that is known for its extensive mods.

Some people pick really, really dumb hills to die on.

Now you have a bitching adventure about trying to create a new plane of fire before everyone dies from entropy is some shit.

This is literally just a discussion. No drama.
