Has anyone here ever come across an explanation of the distinction between being attraction and fetishization? I don't care if the explanation comes from a completely wacko article on Jezebel or a post-modernist academic journal. It's just that the only difference I've noticed is when the (usually) female object of desire doesn't conform to the usual norms.

This is what I've gathered so far:

• attracted to white women -> conforming to western standards and you should be ashamed.
• attracted to thin women -> conforming to western standards and you should be ashamed.
• attracted to young women -> ephebophilia pedophilia and you should be ashamed.

It seems like on the internet people us the term "fetishization" when they want to imply that the attraction is not normal and is somehow morally harmful.

I've had it explained like this to me: if you're attracted to someone solely because they're black/white/purple/whatever and for no other reason, it's probably a fetish. Which in and of itself isn't a problem for jacking off to porn or whatever, but gets weird and creepy to people who are that race when you make it clear you're only sexually attracted to them for that one trait of theirs.

The fetish isn't the problem when it enhances your attraction to someone, it's more that there are expectations you put on someone else you're dating when it comes to said fetish: e.g. black men always have big cocks, Asian women are always subservient, white male nerds are actually cucks, etc.
