Guy was charged with assault and robbery but blames the state for the reason he has a hard time. He also posted a lot in /r/opiates and other drug subs and seemed to be want to gun to "protect" himself when he was dealing.

The cop can't go into court and say "Durrrr, white powder," the government has to articulate what the substance was. Any defense attorney, even the most bust-ass public defender would ask for a chemist to say what drugs the guy was doing. Without that, most judges would throw out the case. Most people with actual jobs, don't need a hardhat. And really, you need something kind of specialized. I have a variety of helmets that would be better suited than a hardhat (not because I'm some poorfag that works construction, but because I enjoy a variety of somewhat dangerous sports) - but a military-style one would still be better in a riot situation.
