It always surprises me how often otherwise non-retarded people (I mean, at least they're able to construct coherent sentences) think they can play identity politics with disability. Isn't it kinda obvious that there's something a priori bad about disability in a way that there isn't about being black or gay or whatever? That, in other words, you can't reduce the negative connotations associated with disability to mere contingent social relations? Like, do these people really think that disability is just another identity that's in no way better or worse than any other?

Obviously people are gonna think it's not a good thing to be retarded or stupid or socially incompetent -- because it is in fact not a good thing. It's not comparable to being gay or being a racial minority. It would be unambiguously homophobic to think the world would be better if we cured all the gays, yet it would be inhumane not to "cure" or to medically assist disabled people when possible.

This all reminds me of a book my friend told me about on the subject of "classism." Apparently the author was of the opinion that the problem facing poor people was not that they were poor, but rather that there exists a social stigma against being poor. Their solution was for rich people to psychoanalyze themselves to get rid of their biases against the poor and for the media to portray more positive examples of poor people so that the impoverished could embrace their own unique identity. I didn't read the book myself, but the way my friend tells it it did not even occur to the author that being poor was in itself a bad thing.

You assumed wrong. My dad isn't. My mom is BPD. And narcissist is an adjective, as I used it. You can be NPD without acting like a narcissist, as I have friends with the disorder. I wasn't at all referring to the PD.

Also, the links you have posted link me to what you're quoting but under your name, as if you're the one saying them. I'm on Redditisfun, but I assume I said those things at some point in time and the formatting is just weird or something. If I did, I try to refrain from saying them now. Especially genital-related insults, but I definitely slip up because this is a relatively new decision to alter my vocabulary. I'll do better in the future, that's all I can say.
