Ok so quick question, who do people like talcum and Rachel appeal to? I mean the right hates them because of their social justicy views and self hatred, the left hates them because they're leeching off actual poc and appropriating them or whatever, so what's their base of support?
Iono, I always see BLM supporters reposting his shit on Facebook. I seriously think some black people are flattered that a white person would want to be a trans-moon cricket, so they just play along.
So all Rachel had to do was pretend a high yeller fucked her mom and she'd be golden. Sean also says he was a victim of an anti-black hate crime as a kid despite looking like this, so I'm pretty sure he's full of shit in general.
because it gets people arguing. Look at the victims that are rallied behind. It's never the cut and dry cases, it's always the ones that have a legit criminal element so that either side has a foot to stand on in the argument. The whole point of this shit is to get people arguing with each other to the point where they feel completely in the right.
Every time you think, 'but why this guy, why not a more legitimate case/figurehead' it's because that wouldn't allow for such vicious arguments.
Could you elaborate on which aspects of him you don't like? I tend to only come across people who gush over him and I haven't read enough of his stuff to have formed a well-rounded picture.
By himself the guy who runs the site isn't bad, but it seems certain people read his stuff, have an epiphany, and then act like they're dropping academic knowledge bombs as opposed to spouting some dude's blog opinions.
I can't remember the article, but it was just classic STEMlord straight white male nonsense ignoring the shit women go through from the hands of brutish men.
He writes really, really, really, long blog posts to make you think he's brilliant and distract from the fact that it's mostly just a lot of "on the other hand..."ing.
Like if I write,
"First, I thought... <6 paragraphs>"
"...but then I realized that was wrong, because of <8 more paragraphs>"
"finally, <some other blogger> pointed out to me that <5 paragraphs>"
"...but that didn't quite capture the reality of the situation because <4 paragraphs and a chart>"
"... in the end I realized that <2 paragraphs>"
The sum total of all that shit only two paragraphs of actual idea.
Also, anyone who defines themselves and their buddies as "the rational community" is pretty far up their own ass with smugness.
I think the detail you are not mentioning that is important is why vicious arguments are good for promoting things. IMO/I think the argument is that they spread fast and wide compared to civility and nuance. If you alienate 50 people who weren't predisposed to your message, but reach one new supporter, maybe that is a "win".
the left hates them because they're leeching off actual poc
I don't think many progressives hate Shaun King. I'm pretty sure they consider him black. Apparently his father (who he has never met) was a light skinned black man. So despite looking white and being raised around white people, in a white family -- essentially having both the experience and the appearance of any other white person -- they consider him black since his biological father was (partially) black.
Which is odd, since progressives (along with most people) tend to explicitly disavow that kind of racial biological essentialism. If race has nothing to do with your genes (which it doesn't), and is on the contrary simply a matter of how society sees you, then Shaun King has as much claim to being black as Rachel Dolezal -- either both of them are black or neither are black. That is, the race of King's biological father cannot determine King's race, since race has nothing to do with biology. But since Dolezal is the antichrist for progressives, and it seems that they are indeed operating under the implicit assumption that biological essentialism is true.
TLDR despite incessantly claiming to be authorities on the matter, progressives are deeply confused about race.
So, Jason Whitlock and the racists at Fox who sign his checks
...why are they supposed to be racist now? Just a random insult at people kinda unrelated to all this just...because he's used to calling people racist and felt funny about calling Whitlock one?
What's funny is as a big sports guy I've never followed Whitlock a lot (he's more 'sports personality' at this point like Bill Simmons or Dan LeBatard or Steven A, and LeBatard's personality appeals to me by far the most), what little I do know of him is as a TV show buff who hated on Breaking Bad for people (wrongfully, imo, but whatever) comparing it to The Wire.
If I recall correctly, he once or twice hinted that people were hyping up BB because it was a mostly white cast as compared to the Wire's mostly black.
So it's fun that he's willing to call out this idiot.
I'd never compare Jason Whitlock to someone with more talent than him, like Bill Simmons or, and I can't believe i'm about to say this, Steven A Smith.
MSNBC correspondent Joy Reid defended King, stating that his father was in fact black, but that his biological father is not the same man who is listed on his birth certificate.
legal father is cucked cumskin
biological father some homeless black dude who ran off after getting yet another hooker pregnant
In Shaun's defense, when my great great great grandmother married a white man, on the census he was still considered white. He's clearly a white man from the one picture we have when he served in the civil war. On the next census after they had children together, the govt considered him black. Apparently this was common practice at the time.
But, this is 2017 and Shaun is clearly white and acting as if he was born a black man.
I couldn't care less about these two people, but I do feel sorry for the pathetic 'journalist' who now has to write articles about a pair of nobodies tweet 'storm'. Hard-hitting, Woodward and Bernstein level stuff
Not trying t9 defend king to much cause a whiny bitxh but his point is kinda proven. White people ain't gonna like him and neither are black people. Hasn't there always been shit like that happening?
This is Mordecai Johnson. The first BLACK President @HowardU. A Morehouse man. Could've passed. Chose not to. pic.twitter.com/Y0BTCDcZVC
if that fucking guy gets to claim to be black, there is absolutely no reason I shouldn't be able to run PG instead of being the token white guy 3&D hustle man at my local ymca pickup game
This idea that mixed people are "black" because they live in a majority white society is one that doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. Would it follow that they were "white" if they lived in Nigeria or Zimbabwe? Well, maybe. An African guy I knew told me they used to call the mixed kids in his school "white".
Mixed is mixed, the old word, now offensive, was "mulatto". But at least it was more precise.
If you have a majority of European ancestry (as this guy clearly does), how are you still mysteriously "black" just because you have the merest tinge of colour? Doesn't that partake in the logic of the racist "one drop rule"? Isn't it just a reversal of the old "passing for white", now it's "passing for black"?
