this just in, black people = half-developed pile of meat and bones consisting of a theoretical living thing leeching off the life force of another person
youre right, they arent, also "half developed pile of meat and bones" doesnt account for that someone on life support was already developed and alive to begin with, like a human female
Nothing more than men wanting to control a woman. Again
/u/Trishlovesdolphins, the pro-life movement has an enormous amount of women in it. By framing it (intentionally lying) as men versus women, you're exacerbating the problem. But that's your intent, right?
We're not talking about the movement. We're talking about the video. In THIS video, women aren't screaming "you're a murderer" or "you're acting like a man."
If you view a fetus as a living person and count abortion as murder then you can easily compare them. How do you not understand that?
Really? I just got into PJ's and now I have to climb through this fucking mental gymnastics routine. "It's like ___ if you just replace it with ___." Sure, nothing about that logic seems flawed at all.
It's not a very hard routine. Pro-lifers literally think it's murder. Since we understand that the right to commit murder isn't a "choice" that people in...anywhere...actually have, this should be one of the easiest things on the planet to understand.
I have read so many dumbshit posts on reddit from apparent kids who are pro-choice and actually cannot fathom that that it blows my mind.
"It's my body, my choice!"
"Okay, but I think it's murder and that's a choice that no one supports"
You can definitely commit murder under the right circumstances. Penalty of death is still a thing. So we can commit a murder, and it's done regularly in a lot of places. Like the states.
Obviously bodily autonomy is the biggest divider - ie, I don't care that I grew an previously unknown life in my toenail fungus, I want it gone. No one can make you host it just for the sake of science, and vice versa.
Well that's not murder, actually. But if you want to just boil it down to 'killing', there's still the huge difference in a state doing it via an elected (or selected, or appointed, or whatever, depending on where you live) government and a person just doing it.
I don't think he's trying to have an abortion debate and I know I'm not, but he's right that there's no "routine": if you think it's murder, and you think murder should be illegal- as like 99.999999999% of people do- then of course you'd be pro-life.
What bemuses me is how lots of pro-choicers- a group I belong to- just can't get that very, very, very basic thing. Pro-lifers think it's murder, and think murder should be illegal. That's like the most fundamental thing you need understand if you're going to interact with them on the topic.
think it's murder
agree with you that murder should be illegal
You don't have to agree with it, but it's a very straight forward and rational position.
The government can order someone to carry out the death penalty, so at some point someone is going to have to actually do it. Like murder them. So, it isn't illegal, it's sanctioned by a lot of governments in certain situations, meaning those "99.9999995 of people" have a caveat to the 'murder is wrong' blanket statement. If so many people agree/believe in this very basic thing, I doubt we'd still have the death penalty.
I mean, I get how simple the idea is, but it's wrong and honestly we all should know better - nothing in life is that simple.
mur·der
ˈmərdər/Submit
noun
1.
the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.
"the stabbing murder of an off-Broadway producer"
synonyms: killing, homicide, assassination, liquidation, extermination, execution, slaughter, butchery, massacre; More
verb
1.
kill (someone) unlawfully and with premeditation.
"somebody tried to murder Joe"
synonyms: kill, put to death, assassinate, execute, liquidate, eliminate, dispatch, butcher, slaughter, massacre, wipe out; More
It has to be illegal. The death penalty isn't illegal.
I don't know why you're perseverating on this word, but #1 that's not the point and #2 you're wrong about the word anyway.
If it's not illegal it's not murder, but that's beside the point. If you think an abortion is killing a person, of course you don't think it's a matter of choice.
So... Homicide is the killing of one person by another, and murder is a form of criminal homicide, where the perpetrator intended to kill the other person, sometimes with premeditation? If that's the case, the state planned to kill them, so...murder. Yeah.
You can kill people in self defense in most places. It's not accurate to say you can never kill anyone.
Perhaps a better example would be someone who needs your blood to live. Let's say someone got into a car accident and they have some super rare blood and you're the only person who could donate. If you choose not to donate, they will die, but you wouldn't be charged with murder. You can't be legally forced to donate your blood.
Now lets assume this car accident was actually caused by you. You still wouldn't be charged with murder for deciding not to give your blood (even though you'd be a dick). You might get charged with manslaughter for the car accident but certainly not for refusing to give your blood.
But you're assuming that abortion is murder, which is much different from saying that a fetus is alive.
Let's assume that all fetuses are alive at the time of conception and therefore have all the same rights to life that any born human has. How do you go from there to classifying abortion as murder?
That's seriously all you need to understand. It's not hard and I'm not sure how so many people fuck it up. You think people would get a clue when pro-lifers bleat that abortion is murder that they think abortion is murder, but apparently we have to have long threads to get to that point.
If you replace it with killing instead of murder, then it's ambiguous. Killing is definitely a choice people have.
Murder is killing that is unlawful and intentional. Calling abortion murder deliberately jumps to conclusions. Abortion is a non-central example of murder.
If you replace it with killing instead of murder, then it's ambiguous.
You could, but that'd be kinda ironic considering I'm responding to:
Really? I just got into PJ's and now I have to climb through this fucking mental gymnastics routine. "It's like ___ if you just replace it with ___." Sure, nothing about that logic seems flawed at all.
The point remains: pro-lifers think it's murder. That that is so easily missed in abortion debates makes my head hurt.
No. If you assume that a fetus is a human being that has 100% the rights of a normal human, then it's still not murder, it's killing. They are the ones doing the replacement to begin with.
