B) you can be a "white Latino" and still be treated like shit or discriminated against if you have more Latino features than other people even if your skin is pasty white or whiter than most white people.
Wait, how is there an issue where somebody can pass as white in society (lol @ the idea of white latinos being treated like brown hispanics) and reap the benefits of being a minority during college applications? That's the best of both worlds!
My friend's mom tells him he isn't "a real Mexican" because he doesn't have a criminal record, owns his home, treats his wife like a partner (instead of a servant), ect.
Some Latinos pass as white (because they're, well, white), but those with accents are "exposed" as foreigners the second they open their mouth. From that moment, in white Americans' eyes, you are no longer white (aka, not like them). I have light skin and most Americans I've met, when the subject has come up, have said that they don't see me as white.
Now, OF COURSE I don't experience the same kind of discrimination as my brown Latino brothers and sisters. Hell, they get it from the inside as well as the outside. But I have had people not take what I have to say seriously, or think I couldn't possibly be just as smart as them, because I speak in a "funny way."
