The Brooks Brothers, candidates for president and vice president, came in 3rd place by 3000 votes. Since the results came in yesterday with Andrew and Sophie winning, the Brooks sent out this hilarious email (note: the Spongebob meme is an edit courtesy of /u/breinke). Campaigns unfortunately have access to everyone's emails and also send out cronies to disseminate campaign material through OSU's course materials hub, Canvas. The Brooks campaign is accusing Andrew and Sophie of libel and illegal campaigning practices. They contest the results of the election and are calling for them to immediately step down and face fines.
Other drama from this election cycle includes the running mates Mary/Carla dropping out after allegations of campaign-finance violations involving Turning Point USA, a conservative non-profit group. More about TPUSA here. After they dropped out, there were allegations that TPUSA had turned their attention to helping the Brooks brothers, who have ties to TPUSA including their campaign manager, Devin Bilski, being a former paid member of TPUSA until March 1st. That same Bilski sent out this dramatic Facebook post recently.
TLDR - unironically caring this much about ethics in undergraduate student governmental procedure.

In high school, the student council was doing stupid stuff like ruining homecoming week and not listening to the complaints about it. So several friends and I created the "Neo Student Union" and we even got a teacher to supervise. Anyone could join and we were going to act as a rival student council to truly represent the people. We drafted a charter. The school announcements denounced us so we spread propaganda around the school including quotes from student council members who said things like, "I'm just doing it to put on my resume". The corrupt student council was controlling the media to stop us. We finally gave up when the principle talked to us and he organized a meeting between Student Council and the Neo Student Union so we could air our grievances​ as long as we agreed to dissolve. A couple of my friends weren't allowed to join the National Honors Society afterwards because of it.
We were doing it almost entirely as a joke, but the school took it so seriously.

Pretty much everyone involved in USG at our school (and I assume most schools) is either in it because of Greek Life or they're aspiring politicos. I think the last president ended up working for Senator Rob Portman. And I think Kasich and Ohio's current treasurer were also in it at some point.
But yes, it's entirely useless outside of padding resumes and everyone on /r/OSU hates them.

I have very rarely hear anyone besides football players say The Ohio State University without some heavy sarcasm. I've heard that more from people who are incredibly butthurt about that from other schools than I've ever heard from other OSU students.

I think it's funny. I wouldn't call myself butthurt about it though. Mostly because my D1 school sucks so much ass nobody even thinks about us unless we go on record as having the worst loss by a D1 team to a D2 team in the history of the NCAA (66-7).
