Now, I'm confused as to why they think they should limit streaming in this way to avoid spoilers. I imagine that everyone who would watch these streams would know that they will see spoilers. Not are they only limiting themselves in a marketing/advertising sense by limiting streams, but this is also a pretty bad PR move, which might cost them sales.
On the other hand, people who thinks this will ruin streamers' careers (lol btw) are stupid as fuck. This game literally came out two days ago, no one established a career based on streaming this. Unless you go ahead and get yourself banned streaming it despite being told not to.
It's a silly stand to take because as far as I know, Atlus doesn't have a non-streaming policy for all of their games and streaming is great publicity. Seems like Atlus might be biting the hand that feeds it a bit here...
From what I've seen, the greater objection came from Atlus waiting until the last minute to tell people about the streaming restrictions, so streamers had to change their plans for the game after the announcement.
Realistically, all that might happen is a couple people get DMCA strikes (or whatever they call it on Twitch) for it; they aren't going to permaban people for streaming a spoiler once, and you'd have to be remarkably stupid to continue streaming it after the first one.
That said, it's still a pretty dumb move from Atlus; I don't think there are that many people that will suddenly decide to buy the game because they can't watch someone stream it.

Agreed and considering that the game has been out in Japan for months now, this whole spoiler reason is kind of retarded.

someone in the replies said that people who had already been streaming having been suspended or something

I think there's probably more people who will skip buying the game as a way to voice their disapproval at Atlus' policies.
Some people watch let's plays and streams in order to get the story of a game without buying it. Not that that excuses Atlus, but I can see why they want to stop it.
I watched a stream of it for an hour lastnite to see what the big deal was, and holy fucking shit is it boring. I didn't see him kill one single enemy let alone a boss fight. It was literally him just hanging out with friends around Tokyo.
Persona is pretty much just Anime: The Game. It's a J-RPG with all the fights and dungeons that go along with that, but you have a bunch of Social Links that you can maintain to strengthen your powers. So you're a kid in high school (2nd year, of course) who hangs out and fights shit. Anime: The Game

Yeah, it's a silly stand to take. Also the game has been out for months in Japan already, so the information is out there.
The reaction is too funny. Fucking stream a different game then? I really wanted to respond "getting a real job is also an option" but I'm too pussy.

I have a real job and still wanted to stream this. I say do it!

Even in Japan, it is forbidden to stream the game generally.
n/a a_jill_sandwich 2017-04-06
It is? Good to know. A lot of the comments were bitching that streaming was being allowed over there.

Even it was the case, I doubt it was done with the blessing of Atlus.

For all players to experience game themselves, they really take the spoilers online seriously.

Particularly since it's resulted in a Streisand effect of people going out of their way to spoil the game.
