I think that's because of a few reasons.
Firstly you have to be a privileged little shit just to have time for constant activism. No poor working class motherfucker has time for this shit when they need to be working in order to keep up a basic living standard.
Secondly in order to become one of these activist nutters you have be exposed to it somewhere and most people get exposed to it in uni or college, usually while pursuing relatively useless degrees. Generally poor blacks don't have that option.
Thirdly working class culture is kinda hostile towards do nothing activism. On average if a working class mom heard their kid say "I'm gonna go spend my life fucking about on twitter complaining about non-issues that I can never do anything about" they're more likely to just hit their kid for wasting their time than the average wealthy parent who has the time to try to be socially conscious and a better person than all their friends in a giant game of oneupsmanship.
Lastly when you're a wealthy almost-black person you're usually surrounded by white people. They're all white, you're sorta black. That makes you the blackest person in the room, the official black persontm, which means you're more likely to be treated differently for being black. That makes them more aware of and attached to their "blackness" even though they really aren't that black.
I really need middle and upperclass black people to abandon the idea that the police or any state sponsored "interventions" are here to help lower class Black folks. They arent. And if you believe they are, your viewing those institutions with a lens of priveledge

idk, I think OP is doing a great thing by acting as a positive role model in her community. It may not fix all of the problems there, but any amount of positive difference helps, and it's amazing what a mentor can do for troubled kids. Even if pop black activism achieved its goal of completely eliminating racism (which is unlikely because a lot of it seems to have splintered race relations through antagonism, and racism is still going to exist so long as blacks are flanking the statistics on employment, education, etc. and leading the statistics in crime, poverty, etc. and poor and middle-income whites need a group to blame for their own problems and the country's problems), what then? The crippling poverty, drug abuse, and crime in black communities will magically disappear? Even though historical racism is the primary reason why those communities are in a terrible state today, and racism today continues to have an effect, the fact of the matter is that black communities are deeply entrenched in a cycle of poverty that can only be broken with outreach programs, a strong community effort to fix itself, and the efforts of positive role models like OP.

Thirdly working class culture is kinda hostile towards do nothing activism. On average if a working class mom heard their kid say "I'm gonna go spend my life fucking about on twitter complaining about non-issues that I can never do anything about" they're more likely to just hit their kid for wasting their time than the average wealthy parent who has the time to try to be socially conscious and a better person than all their friends in a giant game of oneupsmanship.
Lastly when you're a wealthy almost-black person you're usually surrounded by white people. They're all white, you're sorta black. That makes you the blackest person in the room, the official black persontm, which means you're more likely to be treated differently for being black. That makes them more aware of and attached to their "blackness" even though they really aren't that black.

idk, I think OP is doing a great thing by acting as a positive role model in her community. It may not fix all of the problems there, but any amount of positive difference helps, and it's amazing what a mentor can do for troubled kids. Particularly a mentor who can show through their circumstances that marginalized people can still be successful. If more people did what /u/lolabella1924 is doing, then there could be a real improvement to struggling communities. Shame that there's apparently people who are opposed to actually working to make a difference for whatever shitty self-defeating reason.
There were a lot of good posts in that thread imo, but the people berating OP are illustrative of why the current popular strain of minority activism isn't doing much good for marginalized communities and may even be harmful. It focuses entirely on racism while ignoring the problems within the communities, or even denying that they exist (or chalking them all up to racism). Even if pop black activism achieved its goal of completely eliminating racism (which is unlikely because a lot of it seems to have splintered race relations through antagonism, and racism is still going to exist so long as blacks are flanking the statistics on employment, education, etc. and leading the statistics in crime, poverty, etc. and poor and middle-income whites need a group to blame for their own problems and the country's problems), what then? The crippling poverty, drug abuse, and crime in black communities will magically disappear? Even though historical racism is the primary reason why those communities are in a terrible state today, and racism today continues to have an effect, the fact of the matter is that black communities are deeply entrenched in a cycle of poverty that can only be broken with outreach programs, a strong community effort to fix itself, and the efforts of positive role models like OP.
