It's amazing so many people know so little about the basics of taxes. No lefties, the government does not give you money if you have a failing business and tax credits for charitable donations do not work how you think they do. And no, righties, tax brackets and marginal tax rates do not work how you think they do. If you decline a raise at work because it'll "push you into a higher tax bracket" you are a fucking moron and deserve to be poorer.

i'm honestly regularly surprised by this as well. i mean, i'm leftist, and i have a laundry list of criticisms of the current (US) tax system.
but like, the things people were saying about the use of a simple carry forward when the news came out about trump losing ~$1b in 1995 were crazy. people genuinely thought it was some sort of crazy loophole he had used to cancel out his losses, as opposed to not being taxed on his lost income
people are really bad at math, and really bad at money
I think the biggest take away from this election season is that the left is just as dumb as the right. I guess watching the daily show and liking I Fucking Love Science doesn't make you wicked smaht.
the crazy thing reddit, more than any other website, taught me really quickly was how much i can hate people who agree with me deeply on a wide list of issues. even when i see someone defending a position i agree with, they're usually really obviously stupid and should be removed from the internet immediately
I don't even know if they realize that increasing income taxes on the higher tax brackets doesn't really do jack considering so many richy riches have tiny official salaries.
Target capital gains if you want tax revenue. It's where (smart) rich people make their money.
It's really quite simple: when someone disagrees with me, I call them an SJW or Nazi so that I don't actually have to think about my opinions. When someone says they aren't an SJW/Nazi it makes me feel some kind of way and so I call them a dirty neutral.
The righty thing is a straw man. Small business ow ears have legit complaints at arbitrary standards of workers that suddenly ballon their costs like 50 employees triggering all these regulations, so they can't grow their business once hey get 49 employees.
Hey I'm genuinely curious because this never made sense to me, what happens to debts when a limited business goes bankrupt? Why can the people who made it just say fuck it and go make another business?
Dude realized what he said was retarded and googled another argument he thought he could spackle over the original one with and act like that's what he was saying all along. Typical tard move, trust me I do it all the time.

I'm pretty sure 98% of Reddit are claimed as dependants.

the problem with the internet is that it makes the plebs think they should have opinions

I'm not sure civilians should be exposed to irony of that magnitude.

I still don't understand the problem with being neutral so long as you don't allow it to convince you that you're smarter.

Well actually due to income-based restrictions on tax credits and welfare it is possible to lose money or healthcare by having a higher stated income.
Not that that has anything to do with marginal tax rates, but it is possible.

A program at work for our contractors has a large jump on standards for more than 10 employees. Changes in insurance, safety training, etc.
After we kicked it off, it's amazing how many companies suddenly have 9 employees and an army of subcontractors.

That entire thread is riddled with people that don't understand how taxes / "loopholes" work.

Look, jon stewart told me that the rich don't pay taxes, so I'm pretty sure I'm 100% informed

The dude is trying to make a point where you can claim market value on donated services to help you at tax time. He's just stupid though.
