antifa types have always existed on leftypol. they've just never been a majority and their opinions have always been controversial.
the idea that you can solve political problems by going out onto the street and fighting has always attracted the kind of person who doesn't have a strong grasp on reality and prefers to live in a fantasy world. similarly, chan boards also attract many people who enjoy living in a fantasy world.
