This is the train-wreck who I call my best friend. Let’s just start out by saying she starts everything on her own and then plays the victim role. (not using real names). Maria is my best friend so when all of this happened I felt bad but after a while it just kept getting worse so I eventual stopped caring because it seemed like it was something every time I would see her. Here is her story…

Maria was 20 when she got pregnant with her little girl but she only knew the father for a short time at a party before where she originally was trying to get with one of his friends. At this party, everyone was drinking and they had a little too much to drink before the initial hook up happened. She says she just “settled” for him but I don’t know how true that is but ok, whatever you say. Fast forward 9 months and here is the baby; healthy, cute but just a regular baby. Everything was going great for them; they had an apartment, they were getting a car, and planned on getting married and being together forever.

During this time, the father is the only one with an actual job since she attends a community college in the area, so they pretty much live off his pay check and her financial aid she gets for school. Fast forward a year to when she finds out she’s going to transfer to a bigger college. She was so excited and he was happy for her. She planned on commuting to school since he had a good job and didn’t want to move everyone for just a year or two.

This was just the beginning of their relationship going downhill.

She started to stay at the college on weekends for games with some friends she had and wouldn’t come home, when she had free time she was either doing homework or out spending the fathers pay check. So of course, the so-called love they had started to diminish and he had a little bit of resentment towards her. With her gone all the time, I could understand her feeling a little lonely and he ended up sleeping with his supervisor at work. Monthly hook ups turned into weekly hook ups and soon became more frequent.

On top of that his supervisor was engaged to someone else. While Maria starts planning a non-existing wedding because she though he was going to finally propose on Christmas, he’s sleeping with his supervisor at work behind her back. A few days after finals ended she officially finds out that he no longer loves her, which was obvious to everyone other than her but no one said anything. From there on out all they did was argue and fight so it was obvious her happy ending was coming to an end.

Her mom opened a small little restaurant where she worked part time when she wasn’t in school. All she wanted to do was get away her baby’s father. The more she worked the closer she would get to some of the co-workers and with a guy she started to have feelings for. Like any normal relationship this guy Nick started to have feelings for her but had no idea what she would go home to. He didn’t know that when her shift was over she went home to see the baby daddy and sleep next to him in the same bed. Every day the same routine; school, work, homework, sleep next to the baby daddy. And while this has gone one her feelings for Nick grew stronger and stronger.

Eventually everything at the home got worse and worse. More fight, holes in the wall and them hating each other. Eventually she started bringing their little girl around the other guy but wouldn’t allow the baby daddy to bring his “lover” around his daughter. When the little girl would go around her father she would ask for Nick and call him daddy which only made the situation a lot worse.

Eventually the baby daddy moved out and started paying child support aka rent for the apartment because she spent all her financial aid on furniture and unnecessary things. So, the money she gets from baby daddy is not enough to cover rent, utilities, car payment, groceries, gas etc. With money so tight and her not able to do what she wants she starts to pawn off the left over items her ex leaves at the apartment. When he asks for his possessions she ignores him and never really tells him where his stuff is going. Even though she is selling his things she still doesn’t have enough to pay for everything so she has her mom pay for it or her new boyfriend pay for it because she can’t.

The day after she graduated she found out she’s having another baby that she can’t afford. I have no sympathy or remorse for her because she is creating her own problems or making them worse.
