Withdrawal. Basically if you're failing a class and it's past the deadline to drop the class without it being recorded, you can leave without your GPA being hurt but it goes on your transcript as a W.
UC are research universities CSUs focus more on teaching. If you're going just for a bachelors go to a UC but for you're planing to get an advanced degree it's usually cheaper to go to a CSU.
Eh, idk. I had success getting into the grad school of my choice going to one of the supposed "mid-tier" UCs. Most of the people I've met who went to Berkley are extremely miserable.
It means there are more students trying to declare the major than the university can accommodate. The school needs to raise the requirements for the major until they have the right number of students. It's almost impossible at SJSU change your major to cs unless you are getting straight A's
He's a fucking high school student, this petulant child is just a lazy entitle brat. If his attitude is that he doesn't want to do things he doesn't like, life's about to ruin him.
Bruh...linear algebra is not baby algebra...it's one of the highest level math courses an engineering student takes and pass rates at my university are low
Says an autist that will never accomplish as much as Noam Chomsky has. r/drama is filled with bitter "America exceptionalism" morons that think they know more than a world renowned professor who has studied American foreign affairs for over 50 years.
No. Chomsky was never a threat to the political order because he never slayed the sacred cows of liberalism post WW2. He was always allowed to talk shit about the US on national TV because he was never considered a dangerous to the system. Yeah Chomsky is basicaly Alex Jones in less talented for drama.
Bad news for this guy is that there are jocks and frat guy types at all schools, even "elite" ones. Source: was 7/10 on the nerdy loser scale, went to a selective university, thought I'd be like a 2/10 on the school's relative nerdy loser scale, was still a 7/10 on their nerdy loser scale.
Because you can actually drop a class before the deadline and receive some money back and an erasure from your transcript. A withdrawal is basically a confirmation you fucked up and we're going to receive a shit grade and you wasted your money/time by spending more than two weeks in the class,
It doesn't. Drops generally don't go on your transcript, but you can only drop up to usually the first midterm exam. After that it's a withdrawal and you get it marked on your transcript as a W.
At my undergrad you had about a month and a half, so you could drop without a penalty if you did badly on your first midterm. It saved my ass when I was averaging a 48 the first time I attempted calculus.
FWIW, if you're still in high school and are a good student, applying to a few of the Ivies couldn't hurt. They're actually the most affordable options out there for working-class students, because their endowments are so huge that if your parents make less than a certain income, you literally get your tuition waived. The cutoff is $100,000 at Harvard, a bit lower at the other Ivies. My parents made considerably more than that and I still got about 60% of my tuition covered for "financial need."
Of course, there are some social disadvantages to being in the poor half of a school composed mostly of rich people, but the people who you'd want to be friends with won't be assholes about how much money your parents have.
I'd like to echo this as well. Being a poorer/less educated kid in an elite school really sucks until you find the people who don't treat you like shit, but the University will mostly pay for you to be there, and learning how to walk/talk/dress/act like rich people is a legitimate workplace skill if you want to climb the ladder.
Also hanging out with brilliant people who are way smarter than you is pretty neat.
You dont even have to be particularly fit to join. It's ridiculous to me how people in college would get bitchy when I said I didn't have student loans but then vehemently reject the very idea of serving.

It's academic equivalent of taking an L

lol who struggles with baby math and thinks they're smart?
n/a gamergateprincess 2017-05-20
people who fail to get accepted to UC santa cruz.
n/a HuckleberryFN2187 2017-05-20
People who recognize that they'd get rejected by CSU San Jose but still feel entitled to a shot at the UC system.
n/a Michaelphelpsisquick 2017-05-20
Aren't CSU schools the community colleges of California?
n/a HuckleberryFN2187 2017-05-20
No they're 4 years, but a tier below the UCs for most programs.
n/a Tzcar 2017-05-20

Tbh the cs major in San Jose is so impacted that it's rougher than like half the uc's
n/a HuckleberryFN2187 2017-05-20
But if he applies as undeclared and gets in, he should be able to register for CS and declare a major if he does well.
n/a nio151 2017-05-20
That's not how super impacted majors work.
n/a anothertosser221 2017-05-20

Oh yeah that's right! sorry, I got all Ws in English, but it's okay cuz you don't need to know English to major in History.

Surprisingly I did really well Calc 2, but Calc 3 was hard for me.
Diff Eq was easier for me then Lin Alg. Just never got the hang of them or wrap my head around them
n/a Clark_Savage_Jr 2017-05-20
Cal 2 was the worst. The rest of them were way easier.
n/a Allanon_2020 2017-05-20
Calc 2 always made sense to me but Calc 3 with its bullshit was horrible
n/a Hellkyte 2017-05-20
Definitely opposite for me. Laplace transforms can suck my dick.
n/a LedinToke 2017-05-20
See I thought Calc 3 and Diff eq were easy, but linear and calc 2 were hard
n/a OniTan 2017-05-20
You call that baby math? I got as far as math libs.
n/a subpoutine 2017-05-20
Baby math is anything less than differential topology taught in Akkadian, you fucking pleb.

n/a HuckleberryFN2187 2017-05-20
The guy is demanding he go to UCSC and failing even at that, sad!
n/a MyrLeaf 2017-05-20
MIT is the bare minimum. Don't let someone tell you otherwise.
n/a HuckleberryFN2187 2017-05-20
It's true, Noam Chomsky got his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and that fucker can barely read.
n/a MyrLeaf 2017-05-20
Chomsky is the Janis Joplin of political criticism.

Soft Science / Soft Serv... you can't explain that.
n/a Tzcar 2017-05-20
Both do have bacteria in them.
n/a bleasehalb 2017-05-20
How does one even fail freshman biology? Even the biggest knuckledraggers can scrape by that class in most unis.
n/a MooseHeckler 2017-05-20
Medical biology is actually fairly difficult.
n/a celocanth13 2017-05-20
Medical biology isn't freshman biology
n/a MooseHeckler 2017-05-20
Very true.
n/a Tzcar 2017-05-20
It's funny usually they have an introductory bio for non-bio majors I really hope he didn't fail that...
n/a PatternsInMyLife 2017-05-20

Why does W stand for dropped class?
n/a memecitydreams 2017-05-20
Because you can actually drop a class before the deadline and receive some money back and an erasure from your transcript. A withdrawal is basically a confirmation you fucked up and we're going to receive a shit grade and you wasted your money/time by spending more than two weeks in the class,

It begs the question of why /u/Reshefofdestruction didn't drop the classes before the deadline.
n/a memecitydreams 2017-05-20
Probably because he's an entitled little shit and put no thought into the course.
n/a MG87 2017-05-20
IIRC in undergrad you could drop a class without penalty in only the first week or so. Afterwards you would get a W.

n/a TheDocks 2017-05-20
Army
n/a OniTan 2017-05-20
OK. Still have to be able to do a 2 mile run, pushups, and situps. Plus hiking with a 60lb backpack.
Also, there's a new test everyone has to pass, and combat MOS are more demanding.
http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/01/04/us-army-unveils-new-physical-assessment-test.html
Difficult for someone who's never trained, but yeah a few months of working out and most people could do it.
n/a TheDocks 2017-05-20
The APFT isn't that hard to pass. I got in before the OPAT so I don't know about that.
n/a zahlman 2017-05-20
/u/reshefofdestruction if you're that much smarter than them, why was busting your ass necessary for simple shit like that?
