quite right, /u/Bike-o-king! historically, violent retaliation towards political speech has worked out very poorly for those who used (or were seen to support) such tactics. in democratic contexts, it has usually lead to increased public support for parties or figures aligned with the suppressed views (as was the case in weimar germany), while in more authoritarian state formations it has often led to open rebellion, or even the violent overthrow of the dominant regime!
