Honestly I think the majority people think cops are fucking trash at this point, regardless of political leanings. The exception is the extreme conservative trailer trash retard who says things like "Obama is the most Marxist Socialist president our country has ever seen" because he heard Sean Hannity say it.
"Contempt of cop" is law enforcement jargon in the United States for behavior by people towards law enforcement officers that the officers perceive as disrespectful or insufficiently deferential to their authority. It is a play on the phrase contempt of court, and not an actual offense. The phrase is associated with unlawful arbitrary arrest and detention of individuals, often for expressing or exercising rights guaranteed to them by the United States Constitution. Contempt of cop is often discussed in connection to police misconduct such as use of excessive force or even police brutality as a reaction to perceived disrespectful behavior rather than for any legitimate law enforcement purpose.

I used to be pretty pro-cop, but I have to agree. I've known some decent cops, but at the end of the day there is no way to tell the good from the bad from the average who just made a mistake at his job or was having a rough day. And they just keep getting away from being probably the biggest organization of criminals because all the "good cops" are more worried about the retaliation from the crooks up top (which we don't hold accountable) than banding together and forcing out the guys fucking planting evidence on innocent people.
The other thing is that patrol cops are like bottom of the fucking totem pole. They're paid the least and they have the shittiest job. All the cops who are actually good at their jobs get promoted to detectives or management. So any average joe interaction with a cop is with a noob or someone who just sucks. You think the top-tier cops are the ones sitting all by themselves in parking lots at 4am?
The brother of a guy I know is a relatively new police officer and one of his "hobbies" (I guess?) while driving around off duty is pointing out what illegal things other people are doing on the road. Now, tons of drivers definitely fucking suck and don't deserve to drive, but the point is that there are cops out there who just love to be on this pedestal of superiority: "Everyone is breaking the law all the time, but I don't because I am a cop and I am therefore better than the unwashed, lawbreaking masses."
Hey, so I found my way here from PnS to the SRS thread to here, but I'd just like to chime in on something.

That's not really true. While yes, when you're a newly hired police officer, you're thrown into patrol. But a lot of the guys I've worked with have 10+ years on (one of my FTOs had 18 years on and was still going strong) and are still riding the cars because they legitimately enjoy what they're doing. They just enjoy that sort of police work. That doesn't make them bad officers. And yes, those are the ones sitting in a parking lot at 4am, because they've been seeing a lot of break ins in a particular area and are investigating where they might hit next.
Of course, it probably varies from department to department, but from semi-personal experience I believe that patrol is the shit job that nobody wants. The father of a close friend of mine is a cop. Several years ago he was a detective, but decided that he wanted to "give back" more and signed up to be a Student Resource Officer. Well, he quickly realized that he hated the job because he was now seeing the worst of the worst children rather than their parents. I think he should've known that given the city he worked in, but that's neither here nor there. So he tried going back to being a detective, but his department told him too bad, you're going back on patrol with the rookies.
School resource officers (SROs) are sworn law enforcement officers who are responsible for providing security and crime prevention services in the American school environment.
SROs are typically employed by a local police or sheriff's agency and work closely with administrators in an effort to create a safer environment for both students and staff. The responsibilities of SROs are similar to regular police officers in that they have the ability to make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents that occur within their jurisdiction. School resource officers typically have additional duties to include mentoring and conducting presentations on youth-related issues.

In my experience the patrolmen I know all love their jobs.
Yes, I'm sure that there are some people who love staying out until 3am to break up bar fights, pull over drunk drivers, and patrol the "hood," but the fact of the matter is that all rookies start out in patrol because it's the lowest on the totem pole. Not saying that they're bad per se, but they're most likely to have the least experience dealing with the public and the law. Someone has to do the job and they're not all garbage. But almost all the bad ones are in the lowest rank.
It's hard for me to talk negatively about police because I am very aware of the fact that I will probably never deal with a bad cop in my whole life and that they're almost all just trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Almost all of my interactions with police have been professional and not a big deal. But I always feel uneasy when a cop is around.
The problems with policing in America could just be a function of how law enforcement is structured. In a unitary state, where the policing is handled by a central authority, it's fairly easy to standarise best practices (like not shooting black men or Australian women), but when you have fifty states broken up into little fiefdoms with no real oversight, local forces can quickly decay into essentially gangs (especially those small towns with their speed traps).
I once considered walking up to a cop to tell him I saw some kids graffiting, but I decided against it because it was nighttime and I was worried I would spook him and get shot. Unironically.

I'm just saying that most cops are good people. Anyone who disagrees is most likely a criminal and should be removed from the streets.
