Of course, but it doesn't make his "manifesto" less valid.
Someone with a Master's degree plus several years of experience is likely going to know more about their field than someone with a PhD and less experience. In other words, there comes a point where there is little practical difference between a college degree/master's degree/PhD...
Dude, just because Damore's incel manifesto turned you on doesn't mean you need to bend over backwards to defend his unabashed and outright lying on his e-resume.

There's a top post right now thats basically a well informed and researched article on why incel/redpill dudes are most likely IRL losers. The basic premise was that if woman get to an equal standing with men, the men already at the bottom of the male hierarchy have the most to lose. I read that not 10 minutes after seeing james demore's face, pretty apropos if you ask me.
Like update his linkedin 5 years ago when he started the phd program and just never change it, vs. affirmatively represent that he got a phd. like who bothers with his linkedin more than once a decade

"Damore was enrolled in the program but hadn't completed the doctorate, though he did receive a master's degree in biology. The representative did not say why Damore left the program, but it's not uncommon for people to pause their doctoral studies."
It's also not uncommon for people to update their LinkedIn profile when they're looking for a new job. It's also extremely common for people to pile on abuse to some poor politically incorrect schlub and that's what is happening here.
In Europe, we regularly have politicians getting caught pulling that kind of shit. People rarely check those things, especially if you have work experience in your field.
But some jobs (where a given diploma is a requirement) will officially check. In some cases, they'll only check after a few months, so if you changed employers very often you might slip between the cracks I guess.

Nigga that article ain't proof he lied to google about his education. It just means his linkedin profile wasn't updated. He was in a PhD program, left it when he went to google (probably with a terminal masters) and didn't fix a shitty linkedin. Now that he's unemployed he's updating it. Ya'll niggas need jesus.
That guy's picture just screams autism. Code monkeys are such fuckin odd balls, they really are better off not seen or heard. There is a reason they are never dragged out in front of a client
I would say you don't know what you're talking about but then again that's a given. Sales positions and account managers aren't filled with suits from the banks. You're not going to get a role in sales at a tech company unless you have a decent understanding of the tech you're trying to sell, if you don't then good luck back in ad sales. Also very rarely when you're pitching a project or product is the salesperson alone. There is usually a whole team involved with technologists, creatives, account managers, ect. that all go on the pitch. You still don't bring the engineers though as "rolling with the punches" is not something autismos do well at all, and you can exactly have them blowing up during the meeting cause the client said something misinformed or had unrealistic expectations.
oh are you a code monkey and this is why you're feeling miffed? Don't worry buddy, you're very special and can never be replaced! Now please get your shit pushed to the test environment before 4pm!
You do realise they're all real things right? If you're pitching a product you also want people who sort out operations, marketing and graphic design and the account managers who will be dealing with the customer's buyers. The latter are the ones who will be fixing any business issues, selling more products, cultivating relationships and generally keeping the client happy.
You can have a relatively shit product but if it's marketed well and your business back end is on top of things it'll be massively successful. See Dyson.
It's a shame that so many developers have shit social skills because those other guys still don't know shit and end up fucking up the scope of the project.
I think it's cognitive dissonance feel you can meaningfully contribute to a project you don't understand the first thing about. The other guys example about Dyson isn't bad but computers aren't vacuums and we've all seen too many tech projects fail because it was just a guy shouting at engineers to "do this" with no understanding of what that entailed.
In my experience, they do take scientists and engineers sometimes to transform them into half-salesman that still have some responsibilities as scientists/engineers. Getting sent around to pitch the product, demonstrating it, consulting, etc. These people are usually the most outgoing and sociable, though.
Code monkeys are such fuckin odd balls, they really are better off not seen or heard.
There is a reason why every major tech company wants to outsource this stuff to the real code monkeys in India. When they are on a different continent, nobody here has to deal with them personally.
That and it's kind of amazing having your tech team on the other side of the world. The QA team gets to spend all day ripping the product down and finding all the bugs. You send them over at night to the team in India as they are waking up, they fix everything while you're asleep. Rinse and repeat, super efficient and makes for faster development
My company has (physical) engineering teams in Germany, China and the US for this exact reason. Once one group finishes the next can immediately carry on working.
I'm sure you'd think the same when your product shits itself, clients are breathing down your neck, and there's no support team while your own guys can't make heads or tails of the codebase.
hah you should read more into zuk if you don't think he's anything but a power hungry sociopath, and he's proving he's pretty apt at getting it. He's making quite a name for himself in hawaii right now
A.) obviously i'm exaggerating, not every engineer is an autist that wears pajamas to work
b.) I didn't read the article closely at all and assumed he lied about the resume as well, because I mostly base my opinions off the headline like a normal adult
"Two years towards a PhD" means nothing. At best he has a Master's and couldn't hack the PhD program, at worst he's an ABD and deserves all the scorn in the world.
Fuck if I know. If his PhD is still in progress then it doesn't seem that weird to list it on his profile page under education. It's Linkdin man. It's Facebook for professionals who think people care about their opinions on business things.
So why did he bother change it if what is posted on "facebook for professionals" has little to no bearing.
In fact many redditors were duped into thinking this guy had a PHD from Harvard. He also proclaimed being a Senior developer which is also a lie. This guy seems to be stretching the truth fairly often for insignificant stuff
At least you're self aware enough to know how embarrassing it is to be this butt blasted so you hopped on an alt before going on your multi subreddit crusade.
Linkedin asks you in the education section what education programs you've pursued; there is nothing about whether or not you completed the degree. I have my grad school on there, even though I never finished, because it would be fucking retarded not to list at all.
Once again, more hard-hitting journalism from Business Insider to really get the old noggin' joggin'.
The short version is that what he says engineers need as skills is bunk (There is a nice article dismantling this there, but I can vouch, I'm engineer myself), and needs "femenine" traits or something so even if his citations are all fine (as it seems) his theory is bad from the beginning.
Also, it's bad statistics (I'm not going to say that biologic issues are not important, but he definitively didn't show cultural issues are unimportant), there is a /r/badeconomics thread that explains this stuff, but the TL;DR version is that you cannot know for sure because of omitted variable bias.
Overall, I'd say it's nice sophistry. That guy may be misguided rather than malicious though. Not sure if Google made the right thing firing him. It's particularly annoying because it doesn't seem wrong at first glance and it's circlejerk material.
Here's what almost certainly happened: started bio phd and updated LinkedIn. Didn't like it/got good offer from google so left after two years. Most phd programs give you a masters if you get to abd.
Meanwhile, like any normal person he never logged into LinkedIn after that first time. Now that he's in the news he thinks "I bet ppl will Google me" and updates his online presences.
What is this fuckin logic. Only the most baseless of conspiracies about how this guy is the literal reincarnation of twenty separate Hitlers combined into one.
Yeah, I personally don't think the guy lied about anything either. But, people were all over the place getting huffy that a "Harvard Phd" was being questioned about his conclusions, so I guess it did need to be clarified.
This dude looks exactly how I pictured him in my head.
Just for once I want the see an anti diversity screed come from a fat queer black lesbian women. The fallout from the drama would sustain me for months.
Remember Caitlyn Jenner? Her coming out as a Republican caused more controversy than coming out as a tranny. Law of averages, it's got to happen eventually.
Shit, I aint mad at him. If I was enrolled in a doctoral program I'd put that shit up there. If you're enrolled, it's really worth mentioning on your linkedin. As long as he didn't lie to google about completing it or boast about it that way. This is some crazy backlash for maybe we shouldn't have percentages for people we hire.

Oh ok. I was just trying to fit in with the cool kids.
1 Ultrashitpost 2017-08-09
Lmao, google can't even google their own employees
smh
1 Soupforbrunch 2017-08-09
Nigga that article ain't proof he lied to google about his education. It just means his linkedin profile wasn't updated. He was in a PhD program, left it when he went to google (probably with a terminal masters) and didn't fix a shitty linkedin. Now that he's unemployed he's updating it. Ya'll niggas need jesus.
1 UTAutism 2017-08-09
Thanks g.

That guy's picture just screams autism. Code monkeys are such fuckin odd balls, they really are better off not seen or heard. There is a reason they are never dragged out in front of a client
1 high_side 2017-08-09
Riiight so all the well-adjusted Patrick Batemans can try to hawk something considerably beyond their intellectual capacity.
1 JumbledFun 2017-08-09
1 high_side 2017-08-09
Don't forget thought leaders!
1 JumbledFun 2017-08-09
oh are you a code monkey and this is why you're feeling miffed? Don't worry buddy, you're very special and can never be replaced! Now please get your shit pushed to the test environment before 4pm!
1 high_side 2017-08-09
Oh dang, you must be HR. Sorry to hear that.
1 JumbledFun 2017-08-09
Hah no way, that job is miserable. Is miffed an hr'y word?
1 blertyuh 2017-08-09
Tell em, code monkeys have the most massive egos for being a bunch of easily replaceable autists
1 Thyrotoxic 2017-08-09
You do realise they're all real things right? If you're pitching a product you also want people who sort out operations, marketing and graphic design and the account managers who will be dealing with the customer's buyers. The latter are the ones who will be fixing any business issues, selling more products, cultivating relationships and generally keeping the client happy.
You can have a relatively shit product but if it's marketed well and your business back end is on top of things it'll be massively successful. See Dyson.
1 high_side 2017-08-09
I have people skills. I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?
1 orgyofdolphins 2017-08-09
Is this meant to be ironic? If it's meant to be a joke it's pretty funny but I can't tell with this sub anymore.
1 AntiLuke 2017-08-09
It's a quote from Office Space.
1 Namenamenamenamena 2017-08-09
Lol sales has the slightest grasp on it. That's why, as you said right after, they have their handlers.
1 UpvoteIfYouDare 2017-08-09
It's a shame that so many developers have shit social skills because those other guys still don't know shit and end up fucking up the scope of the project.
1 snappleteadrink 2017-08-09
I think it's cognitive dissonance feel you can meaningfully contribute to a project you don't understand the first thing about. The other guys example about Dyson isn't bad but computers aren't vacuums and we've all seen too many tech projects fail because it was just a guy shouting at engineers to "do this" with no understanding of what that entailed.
1 OccasionallyClueless 2017-08-09
In my experience, they do take scientists and engineers sometimes to transform them into half-salesman that still have some responsibilities as scientists/engineers. Getting sent around to pitch the product, demonstrating it, consulting, etc. These people are usually the most outgoing and sociable, though.
1 Think_Once 2017-08-09
There is a reason why every major tech company wants to outsource this stuff to the real code monkeys in India. When they are on a different continent, nobody here has to deal with them personally.
1 JumbledFun 2017-08-09
That and it's kind of amazing having your tech team on the other side of the world. The QA team gets to spend all day ripping the product down and finding all the bugs. You send them over at night to the team in India as they are waking up, they fix everything while you're asleep. Rinse and repeat, super efficient and makes for faster development
1 Thyrotoxic 2017-08-09
My company has (physical) engineering teams in Germany, China and the US for this exact reason. Once one group finishes the next can immediately carry on working.

1 UpvoteIfYouDare 2017-08-09
Have fun with your shitty, undocumented, unsupported code, then.
1 Think_Once 2017-08-09
Still better than reading some autistic manifesto and dealing with this incels.
1 UpvoteIfYouDare 2017-08-09
I'm sure you'd think the same when your product shits itself, clients are breathing down your neck, and there's no support team while your own guys can't make heads or tails of the codebase.
1 Byrnhildr_Sedai 2017-08-09
So, like American code?
1 UpvoteIfYouDare 2017-08-09

1 wow___justwow 2017-08-09
A) Software engineers interact with clients all the time.
B) A linkedIn profile is not a resume.
If you're going to scream about someone being an autist, you should consider not being retarded.
1 JumbledFun 2017-08-09
A.) obviously i'm exaggerating, not every engineer is an autist that wears pajamas to work b.) I didn't read the article closely at all and assumed he lied about the resume as well, because I mostly base my opinions off the headline like a normal adult
1 wow___justwow 2017-08-09
lol fair enough

1 FTFallen 2017-08-09
I love a good case of "Gotcha" journalism!
Except the dude said days ago he didn't have a PhD and the reports saying he did were false.
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
So why did he include PHD on his linkedIn?
1 scatmunchies 2017-08-09
The liberal media
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
The media hacked his linkedIn?
1 TheGreatWolfRuss 2017-08-09
The deep state really cares about "equality" in tech so they hacked his account.
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
Rumour has that the liberal media also created the memo and that

1 ThatMormonMike 2017-08-09
He included PhD level studies on his Linkedin, which from what I've read isn't in doubt. He just never received his PhD.
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
Do you have a source for thisv?
The article clearly shows PHD and he also changed it after being exposed.
If you want to berate women for being biologically inferior at least keep your qualifications honest
1 nanonan 2017-08-09
He did two years towards a PhD at Harvard. Not including that on your resume would be idiotic.
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
Resume ?
1 nanonan 2017-08-09
Linkedin or whatever the fuck, like I give a shit.
1 snallygaster 2017-08-09
Two years isn't even remotely close to achieving a PhD, though. If he kept it on his resume then he should have made it absolutely clear that he quit.
1 nanonan 2017-08-09
I don't doubt he did. I do doubt those claiming he didn't looked very far into it.
1 atsteak 2017-08-09
LinkedIn isn't really a resume. You should definitely update a resume before sending it out.
But I know plenty of people who don't update their LinkedIn for years and I can't really blame them for that.
The fact is that LinkedIn doesn't obviously distinguish between having a PhD and having been in a PhD program, but that's LinkedIn's fault, not his.
1 UpvoteIfYouDare 2017-08-09
Lol, that's called a Master's degree. Typically you get a Master's if you end up not finishing your dissertation.
1 1337_HACKER 2017-08-09
That's not how it works for all universities, most universities have a seperate masters program, and a seperate PhD program.
1 WalterMatthau 2017-08-09
"Two years towards a PhD" means nothing. At best he has a Master's and couldn't hack the PhD program, at worst he's an ABD and deserves all the scorn in the world.
1 nanonan 2017-08-09
At best he did a summer internship at Google and got offered an obscene amount of money to work there. He's no dope.

1 FTFallen 2017-08-09
Fuck if I know. If his PhD is still in progress then it doesn't seem that weird to list it on his profile page under education. It's Linkdin man. It's Facebook for professionals who think people care about their opinions on business things.
1 Tiffany-Trump 2017-08-09
So why did he bother change it if what is posted on "facebook for professionals" has little to no bearing.
In fact many redditors were duped into thinking this guy had a PHD from Harvard. He also proclaimed being a Senior developer which is also a lie. This guy seems to be stretching the truth fairly often for insignificant stuff
1 FTFallen 2017-08-09

1 Namenamenamenamena 2017-08-09
At least you're self aware enough to know how embarrassing it is to be this butt blasted so you hopped on an alt before going on your multi subreddit crusade.
1 GrovelingPeasant 2017-08-09
Because he'd have a years long employment gap on his resume otherwise you fucking troglodyte
1 notthegreatestcatch 2017-08-09
Maybe he stopped doing his PHD, those things are pretty lengthy.
1 GrovelingPeasant 2017-08-09
Linkedin asks you in the education section what education programs you've pursued; there is nothing about whether or not you completed the degree. I have my grad school on there, even though I never finished, because it would be fucking retarded not to list at all.
Once again, more hard-hitting journalism from Business Insider to really get the old noggin' joggin'.
1 Soupforbrunch 2017-08-09
Ikr? It's amazing how many people thought that article was in any way valid.
1 OldOrder 2017-08-09
TL;DR is he has a Masters in Biology but has not completed a PHD program.
1 pepperouchau 2017-08-09

1 Karmaisforsuckers 2017-08-09
Sciemce is meaningless without interpretation, and its his interpretation people have issues with.
1 I_DRINK_TO_FORGET 2017-08-09
What interpretation did he give?
1 Neronoah 2017-08-09
1 holditsteady 2017-08-09
I agree with this

Now he's going to be attacked for that and arguments will escalate between his defenders and attackers
1 nio151 2017-08-09
So it didn't say he had a phd right?
1 tomato_man123 2017-08-09
Here's what almost certainly happened: started bio phd and updated LinkedIn. Didn't like it/got good offer from google so left after two years. Most phd programs give you a masters if you get to abd.
Meanwhile, like any normal person he never logged into LinkedIn after that first time. Now that he's in the news he thinks "I bet ppl will Google me" and updates his online presences.
The end
1 caffienatedjedi 2017-08-09
What is this fuckin logic. Only the most baseless of conspiracies about how this guy is the literal reincarnation of twenty separate Hitlers combined into one.
1 SeftonsMice 2017-08-09
Yeah, I personally don't think the guy lied about anything either. But, people were all over the place getting huffy that a "Harvard Phd" was being questioned about his conclusions, so I guess it did need to be clarified.
1 otherwiseyep 2017-08-09
You can't claim to have a PhD just because you are in a program, either. It is a lie to say you have a PhD when you don't.
1 Randydandy69 2017-08-09
This dude looks exactly how I pictured him in my head.
Just for once I want the see an anti diversity screed come from a fat queer black lesbian women. The fallout from the drama would sustain me for months.
