I think that it's not as common that people get braces here, and we definitely have bad genetics with teeth structure, most people I know have had fucked up tooth growth growing up. About half of them got braces.
Dentists are also expensive here since no one has health insurance so they have to pay up front. NHS dentists are cheaper but they're always completely full as there aren't enough of them.
Difference in the US is that as soon as someone has a tooth issue they immediately go to the dentist just as they'd go to the doctors for something, well here in the UK the health service is not doing so great so people don't really use either dentist or doctor until it gets really bad.
