Russian social media site explodes over a user's post.

So this has been going on for a few days, I go on the site Pikabu occasionally to practice Russian but this story has gripped me a little and made a lot of people flip out. I am new to Reddit though, I have read all the rules and hope I have complied with them all.

https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fpikabu.ru%2Fstory%2Fkak_ya_svoyu_kameru_popolzovatsya_na_paru_dney_daval_5307750

Unfortunately the pictures are not translatable using google translate so I will try and explain.

(7 August 2016) The guy has an expensive Sony camera and notices that someone on his social media site vk wants to buy one but isn't sure if she should buy it. The girl is an acquaintance from a long time before but decides to lend it to her, 'how much?' she asks, 'for free' he replies, just return it in a couple of days. She tells hem how happy he has made her and expresses her appreciation.

He didn't get it back after a couple of days but doesn't need it at that moment so decides to wait until the end of September. He asks her about it and she said that she will still not be returning to Novobirsk for a while.

In October he asks her again and she explains that her friend was meant to bring it but he forgot.

Then in November she explains that the camera got broken because 'a waiter poured wine on it' and she needs to get it fixed.

some more off topic messages are exchanged to break up the awkwardness of the situation, then he follows up with her again and she said she's ordered some spare parts.

In January he messages her over a few days and she doesn't reply, eventually she says it needs a new screen and she ordered a replacement. He complains that its already new year and still no camera, and she says she knows and cant believe how slow the store is.

In February he asks her about it again and she said that she had to pay a lot of money for the new screen, and they are just fixing it. Then a few weeks later he asks her if they have returned it yet to which she initially ignores him and then sends him some kind of voice message.

In late march he follows up with her again but gets nothing, they start discussing her just giving him money for the camera, he says they no longer stock this camera in Novobirsk but estimates the value to be 21thousand rubles based on what's selling second hand.

She says that the original camera is okay and she broke the lens and she just needs to buy a new lens. Dima at this point says, 'Just send it to me, don't worry about fixing, I'll just be happy to have it back'.

She said she's at a wedding and will talk about it later, he messages her a couple of times with no reply. Eventually she replies and says, so what are we doing? He tells her send the camera and how long will it take, he also says he would like 10k rubles for the lens which is far less than what it will cost to replace, she says she can get it to him may 20th.

He messages her on may 25th asking about the camera but she says that Dasha didn't send it (I don't know if that's her friend or the courier but I assume the courier). Dima says its not funny anymore, send the money for the camera. He sends her a few more messages asking if she's found another way to send the camera, she just says 'i'll send it soon'. He asks her about the money and replies 'oh, how much' he reminds her but has to say her name again to which she simply replies 'I heard you'

He messages her a couple of times, then asks her why do you ignore me? To which she replies -"what am I meant to do write to you every day?"

He says his patience has run out and send money or the camera and he will keep reminding her until she does.

2 months passed and still nothing.

So it was basically a year and its pretty obvious she doesn't want to give it back, it happens that some people are this way inclined but this is where it gets really interesting. He posts the story on Pikabu which spawns a massive attention and a huge volume of memes. (Verni Kameru/ верни камеру) just means return the camera and her name is contracted to Rita. (See below link)

https://pikabu.ru/story/rita_verni_kameru_5308898

So naturally a backlash follows and her vk account gets flooded, people get hold of her cellphone number and write her messages.

At this point any ordinary person would give up. You've been found out, you know you are in the wrong, the internet is putting pressure on you, your friends and family are getting messages so you would think she would simply return it, or at the very least come clean and explain what happened. Some mitigating information which may garner sympathy.

But instead she makes a post without mentioning the camera once saying she is the victim of an online tirade and makes a mention of the the netflix series black mirror.

She makes further posts expressing that she has become increasingly angry and uses the hashtag #resist, again not mentioning the camera.

Eventually she makes one last post saying she is sending Dima the money and he will recieve it on Monday so everyone should stop talking about it. Monday came and he still hasn't received the Money.

For me personally I would like to know - How does she justify it to herself exploiting the kindness of a stranger. And how does she justify it to her friends and family, some of whom appear to have posted on vk telling her just to return it. -What really happened with the camera, did she sell it, did it really break?

As I said I have tried to be mindful of the reddit rules so I would appreciate if someone tells me if I have broken any. There have been more developments and Dima - the guy who's camera it is did a web interview on youtube about everything. As it stands Rita has closed her VK account to all public comments as well as all her other social media platforms. I hope people find this story interesting, the language barrier made it hard for me to relay all the information with 100% accuracy and in an interesting way but I tried my best as I think it's pretty accurate.

**Guys thanks for all the kind feedback - A quick update - the story made national news and you can see it here https://youtu.be/_BkQA6ZcVp4 **

Gopnitsas just don't give a shit.

supremely high quality post

where the fuck have you been.

Am I missing something? This is just a story about some chick stealing some guy's camera, and a bunch of people freaking out about it

You mean 'actual fucking drama' you piece of shit?

you piece of shit

Damn man, some chick steal your camera?

кАМЕРА ГДЕ!?

Someone steal your humor you piece of shit?

<3 bully the users until the quality of the sub improves.

beatings will continue until morale improves

Hol' up lemme just find a link to some low hanging reddit fruit and sort by controversial

Another piece of evidence that Russian women are crazy.

as if more were needed

Thank you, the maymays are pretty funny, I especially enjoyed this one.

кАМЕРА ГДЕ!? = CAMERA WHERE!?

It's actually hilarious

It's about ethics in camera borrowing.

She should spin this as harrassment due to mysogyny and get asylum in the US

"5 AutoFocus Points, Burgers and Fries" doesn't really roll off the tongue very well.

I'll try and come up with something better.

Misogyny is like Russia's national sport bruh.

You beautiful bastard

I would have liked this to have been a story about consequences catching up with someone, but it appears you have to be super-elusive to be a camera-thief.

Don't worry about breaking rules, this place is moderated by excellent mods.

How polite/beta do you have to be to let 2 days swell into a full year?

If she is just a stranger it's unclear what he could have done to recover the camera.

Should be a lesson. Only help strangers who are in real trouble. Like if they have no food, rent money or are not safe. In these situations you still can get scammed but at least it's real you are really helping someone.

Don't lend them expensive fucking cameras that's just waiting to get taking advantage off.

haha confusing

There's nothing I can use to jerk off here

Elitist.

@Dubble that's what makes it interesting. It seems the consequences are catching up with her, this morning they discussed the story on the radio, the more she tries to be evasive, the more people are compelled to react. Since writing this she put up a video of herself packing the camera and posting it to him, though a lot of people are still unsatisfied because she already agreed to give him money (has has since brought a new camera and has no need for the old one) and it is assumed that the camera is broken. Alongside the video she put a large dialogue basically arguing she did nothing wrong and calling everyone a bunch of losers who need to leave their computer and get a girlfriend. I don't want to link to the video on her profile because it has her personal info but you can find it easily if you can be bothered to look.

On Reddit you can reply to people's comments directly, don't have to use @ to do it :)

@Jyrgel

coo thx

We do have userpings tho

Yeah /u/ebriscombe if you want to ping someone you can write there name like "/u/ebriscombe".

I searched for this Rita/Margarita camera thief and she looks middle aged. I was expecting her to be a teenager! I can't find this video you mentioned, how should people go about looking to find it without knowing russian? interesting story. thank you.

The video is on VKontakte, it's like Facebook you just put in her name. You may need to sign up to see her wall im not too sure. I think you need to enter it in Cyrillic for it to work so may be a copy and paste job.

thank you. i found it on youtube. how does she afford to go on all these exotic trips? is that part of her job?

I literally want to hold you down and suck you off but in a shy and bantering manner

I love this kind of drama. Thanks for posting it.

calling everyone a bunch of losers who need to leave their computer and get a girlfriend.

What happened to creativity? Why is it always this kind of response?

Смешно, но камеру так и не вернули.

Not only he was enough of a beta-cuck to let her feed him "tomorrows", but he didn't even think about involving the police (or at least threatening action). AFAIK under Russian law this qualifies as theft/embezzlement, which is a crime and can actually put her in jail (which would serve her right, considering that MLM shit she's doing for a living).

One other thing i forgot to mention is that 13 other people have since come forward saying she owes them stuff and basically did the same thing with them.

Juicy shit OP.

Just use a phone like a normal Fucking person. Camera? SMDH.

sorry, but you can take that acronym back to /r/bpt where it belongs

Oh no you didnt...

Speaking about russian drama, yesterday I red a good piece of it.

Woman makes a post about her abusive husband. They live separate atm. He evidently:

Hit her in the face once when she tried to "fix relationships". After that all drama began.

He used crooked cops to fuck with her and her family, used them to get the child from her.

Eventually takes child (~3 y.o) by force from her grandmother when she went out for a walk, chokes grandmother a little bit.

Had a gay sex during their marriage (she posted his messages with a "friend").

Woman also mentions her husband has some recordings of her beating the son.

Next day, father posts recordings of his wife using needles to teach son a lesson. She was working on a dress and he interfered, she pinched him with a needle to show that it's dangerous to play with her shit. Also asks "do you want me to do that again" in that same recording. Posts father and son videos where son tells that momy is evil and hurts him.

Also posts more beating of the son, no video but it sounds as a good kick in the ass.

Atm they are covering each other with shit online.

the child is the real loser there...

Asiatic horde genocide when

Rita's a camera stealing bitch

Lol, I frequent the website as well, would never expect this to end up on Reddit of all things

Well... He is a cuck. I'm pretty sure he gave it to her because she is a chick.

/r/ebriscombe I like you. Can we be friends?

For me personally I would like to know - How does she justify it to herself exploiting the kindness of a stranger.

Send me an expensive camera to borrow and I can explain.

Отлично

спасибо OP

It seems like the story has made national news now.

LMAO, how badly do you have to fuck up for your camera "loan" to make fucking national news.

i am impressed with the public shaming. if this happened here, people would probably just be like 'ok dude, that was dumb of you to lend it to her. go to small claims court.' No small claims court in Russia I guess?

Thats some nice effortposting Drama right there. Good shit
