Considering that convicted pedophiles on a sex offender list can't legally have any contact with minors, it's a complete non-problem. All they would be doing is complying with the law and the restrictions set in place on people who are on the sex offender list. They were tried and convicted of the crimes and just because a disaster may happen doesn't give them the right to no longer comply with the conditions of their release.
I'm sure there are also a decent number of people who had sex with their underage girlfriend/boyfriend after they turned 18 and then ran afoul of some vindictive parents pressing statutory rape charges. I'd consider that a pretty bullshit reason to be on the sex offender list as well.
i mean, if i were a sex offender (inb4 ">if") and lacked the resources to get out of dodge i'd probably go regardless. i'm either gonna be let in or arrested and either way probably end up somewhere safer than my home. that said, the underlying logic here that a paroled kidfucker is gonna start fucking a kid in the middle of a hurricane in the place with by far the densest concentration of people and police in the entire city is pretty fucking retarded.
